Themed Color Map - Mission Compass Markers
Minimalist coloring of Quest and Map markers. Compass markers can also be used to work with SkyHUD. Specifically: Skyrim's 9 big cities and Raven Rock, color themes based on city banners/shields, my taste and other stuff. External/internal quest markers, custom objective markers, and player location markers are more eye-catching.

NOTE: This mod (and judging by other similar posts) has issues with SkyUI. The map.swf file covers some additional SkyUI content. This causes a SkyUI Error 5 message to pop up the first and only time the map is opened after loading. The biggest impact is the removal of the ability to search for locations by name. This issue has been fixed with an updated version by replacing map.swf with mapmarkerart.swf provided by SkyUI in their bsa.

I'm tired of trying to pinpoint all my quest markers on my map. All black and gray mixed together. I decided to go fishing for a colored quest marker mod. In my search, one of the versions I came across was a simple version of skyrimlazz's Color Map Markers SE. This is by far my go-to version for everyone. It just worked so I wanted some variation so it wouldn't be colored and instead a mix of black and gray, it had worked for the compass color changes and world observation quest markers etc. (outside of the map/compass) but the colors didn't fit what I had in mind. This set me on my own path as I felt like it was just a recolor, how long would it take? Hey... also, thank you skyrimlazz for pointing me in the right direction and helping me out when I'm in trouble.
So, I guess I just changed the quest markers, but then I wanted the main city icons to match their city's branding.
Changes in this mod:
- Make external and internal Quest markers and custom objective markers light yellow (or a variation) for bright beacon-like functionality.
- The nine cities and Raven Rock get their respective color themes based on their banners/shields, I'm limited on the appearance of lighting or color changes between various mod list game pictures, CK assets, vs more detailed map icons/shield art, and my taste. Windhelm, Riften, Whiterun, Solitude, Dawnstar, Markarth, Morthal, Winterhold, Falkreath and Raven Rock.
- The current location is marked in black and purple, which are the color marks of legendary level universal dragons in Skyrim. Feeling like dragon roar is the best for playing. There's also a bronze and gold current location marker option, in case your character isn't a dragon or you prefer the black/purple version of this. The bronze and gold photo is the last or near the last one in the picture above.
- Affects map icons, compass icons (using SkyHUD) and quest markers in the world (on NPC heads or on area entrances/exits).

Install:
Should be handled well.
The first and second main files are mapmarkerart.swf and hudmenu.gfx. Black and purple or bronze and gold position markers.
The third main file has the optional compassmarkerart.swf for SkyHUD's compass icon. It works with any version. Please note that the file version is still 1.0.0 and does not need to be changed.
The optional .txt file section contains all RGB codes. Just remember the warning if you want to change/adjust the colors yourself.
-
Things to note:
This only affects discovered map icons, not undiscovered ones.
- When the cursor is not on the map icon, the color may fade slightly. Icons on the map have transparency.

To watch this tutorial - but use "mapmarkerart.swf" in SkyUI's bsa file instead of the main game's "map.swf" file. You can also download the mod and use the files to save yourself the trouble of mining bsas, then follow the instructions in the tutorial.
and download the following:
JPEXS SWF Decompiler (opensource, free) - Right click on Shape, click Raw Edit, download to fillStyles. The color can be changed there.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
