About this mod Machine translation

This is an expansion to the original Vampire gamer's home The Shrouded Lair

Mrstiffy's Shrouded Lair has always been one of my favorites for a gamer's home that reflects a vampire theme. After reinstalling the vanilla mod a few weeks before writing this article, I noticed that the vanilla mod had not been updated in a very long time. This prompted me to contact the author and ask for permission to make some changes. Mrstiffy granted such permission and made a master file that I could build in.

For download and installation instructions, please follow the sequence below:

  • Navigate to The Shrouded Lair and download all required files.
  • Download my mod, install and activate.
  • Make sure my mod loads after The Shrouded Lair or you will crash to the desktop

Example loading order:

Compatibility and testing

Since my mod uses custom assets from the original game, I did run the SSE NIF Optimizer on the custom mesh I used.

Checked my mod in SSE Edit and there are no errors or ITM (same Master) records found.

This mod has been saved in CK 64 to update the Skyrim Special Edition table version to 44.

Place

The entrance to the lair is behind a waterfall above Falkreath.

Start at the sawmill and follow the creek to the cliff edge. Then walk across the waterfall.

For those who can't find the key, take the heart from the dramatist behind the Volkynthraad book.

The changes made are as follows:

Vampire roars in the main room

Traps in the first room before entering the home, use these to your advantage.

weapons plaque

Navmesh fix

clutter

The Weeping Garden has a path to the top of the tower, which contains a method to obtain the Standing Stone effect. Check the screenshot.

Mannequins in the armory should no longer move around.

Having reinstalled the original mod a few weeks prior to the time of this writing, I noticed the original mod hadn't been updated in quite some time. This motivated me to contact the author and ask permission to make some changes. Mrstiffy granted such permission and made a master file in which I could build off of.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
