Overview
Frozen is the realization of my vision for survival and immersion in Skyrim. Skyrim is one of the coldest regions in Tamriel and we can experience severe weather such as blizzards, but in the vanilla game this is not even an inconvenience. Food is like clutter, but with a slight magic effect attached to it. Sleep can give you extra benefits, but they don't even last the entire day, so they don't encourage you to sleep properly. The idea with this overhaul is to make enough changes to make all of these elements seem like they mean something without them becoming the main mechanic that overshadows the rest of Skyrim's gameplay. Tap changes also help maintain a high level of compatibility with mods that add more content to the game.
The functionality of the mod should be somewhat intuitive, so if you don't care about all the technical details, here's a quick rundown of the main features you should know:
Cold weather can make you feel cold, which can slow down your stamina regeneration or, at extreme levels, drain stamina and health.
Wearing clothes or staying close to a heat source can keep you warm.
Cold will prevent waiting and fast travel.
Eating a meal within a few hours (6+ hours) before bed can give you a little benefit the next day.
Eating throughout the day will provide you with some benefits.
You have to sleep to level up.
For more technical details, read on.
cold survival
Now, factors like weather and time of day can affect local temperatures, making you feel cold. To lessen the effects of a cold, you'll have to find ways to stay warm or stay healthy with foods like soups.
cold environment
weather
Weather is the main factor in determining ambient temperature. Cloudy weather is cold (-32 warm), while rainy and snowy weather is cold (-64 warm). Note that there is another modifier for locations with snow or ice, which generally makes areas with snowy weather colder than this.
time of day
In addition to weather conditions, the time of day also affects the temperature of the weather. Outside of daylight hours (8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.), any cold weather conditions will be one step cooler (warm -32).
Snowy and icy places
Areas with snow or ice will generally be two stages cooler (-64 warmer), among other modifiers. This includes both interior and exterior locations.
swimming
Swimming will make you feel one step cooler (-32 warm).
keep warm
warm clothes
Wearing clothing or armor will increase your warmth level. It uses the same system as Creation Club survival mode. The warmest clothes can give you +131 warmth.
heat source
Being near a fire heats you up (+96 Warmth).
Content Additional Note: Compatibility with heat sources must be added manually. If you report these to me I can immediately update the mod to support them. Currently supported mods:
-Bonfire party
- Bonfire cabin
-camping site
Other impacts
Having extra frost resistance can also reduce your exposure to the cold. An active flame cloak keeps you warm regardless of other circumstances. Undead (such as vampires) make you completely immune to cold, but also make you feel no warmth.
warm or cold effects
If your overall warmth rating from all of the above factors is negative, this can result in a debuff as follows:
-32 to -1: Cold - Stamina regeneration is reduced by 35%.
-64 to -33: Cold - Stamina regeneration reduced by 80%.
-65 and below: Freeze - Stamina regeneration is reduced by 125%.
If you are close to a heat source and can bring your total warmth to at least 64, you also get the buff:
Warmth - Stamina regeneration is increased by 30%.
If you catch a cold or freeze, you'll be too cold to rest or travel quickly. Additionally, if your overall stamina regeneration rate drops to a negative value, you gain additional debuffs:
Lower body temperature - drains 1 stamina per second, increasing to 3 when running or swimming. Consumes life when stamina is exhaust …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
