Apocrypha - Forbidden Library
According to legend, Apocrypha is "an endless library with shelves extending in every direction and books upon shelves." </ s > </ s > </ s >
Unfortunately, in the game, I felt like the walls of books were a cluttered mess. This version contains HD textures with books along the walls and ceiling.
Books have been placed at right angles to create artificially placed bookshelves, thus maintaining the feeling of having books crammed into every nook and cranny (which also looks better when draped across the ceiling), yet still giving a sense of accessibility. I feel this strikes the best balance for my own taste.
I've also played with the normal map, hoping it looks better and has more depth now.
The texture itself is based on Giuseppe Maria Crespi's "Buchregal mit Musikschriften" and the format has been heavily edited by myself - the original image is in the public domain and there are no copyright issues with using the original image.
This mod was originally created in 2013 to suit my personal preferences and has been ported to SSE upon request. I have no plans to develop this mod further or update the textures.
Technical details:
HD repaints of the Apocrypha book wall and statue are available at 2048 resolution. Performance will depend on your graphics card, but since Apocrypha is an internal unit, the impact on performance will be less than most high-resolution mods.
This mod has been ported from the original Oldrim mod I created myself in 2013, converted to form 44 for compatibility, and converted to esl (using a compressed form) to allow use with large load orders.
Known issues:
-The textures may not be optimized for best performance, but I don't see any frame rates on my own system. I have no plans to update this mod.
- As with all textures, the visual effect may not be to everyone's taste - the walls are completely different from the original textures, while (in my opinion) still being out-of-print friendly.
Install:
Textures provided in bsa format are easy to install and uninstall, and are recommended by Bethesda to optimize performance (recommended on loose files).
This file is provided as esl and does not affect mod limits or load order.
Install the esl and bsa files using Mod Manager or manually place them into your data directory.

Apocrypha - The Library of Forbidden Knowledge
According to lore, Apocrypha is "an endless library, shelves stretching on in every direction, stacks on top of stacks."
Unfortunately, in-game, I feel that the walls of books are a pixelated mess. This release includes HD textures containing books along the walls and ceilings.
Books have been placed at right angles to create artificial shelving that keeps the feeling that books are stuffed into every nook and cranny (and also looks better when tiled on ceilings) but still gives a feeling of accessibility. I feel that this strikes the best balance according to my own tastes.
I've also played around with the normal maps, hopefully it looks better and has a little more depth now.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
