NOTE: I received permission to port this mod! I'm not the author, but I believe this mod is too good to collect dust. I tested it on SE and it works great. Enjoy everyone!
Quick start:
Teammate Lockdown Assistance (TLA)
Allows players to "recruit" a teammate/follower (or teammates) to act on their behalf as an expert locksmith.
How to get started: Give a follower a TeammateLockpick by opening the inventory dialogue menu. As long as the TeammateLockpick is in their inventory, they are considered "recruited" by this mod and can open locked doors and chests on request.
Making a request is exactly the same as asking a follower to chop wood, except instead of pointing at the stake, the player points at the locked item (door, chest, monitor, safe, etc.) and presses the activation key to make the request.
There are two ways to enter this control mode, open the dialogue menu and select "I need you to do something". This will put you into crosshair command mode or enter it directly by aiming your crosshair at your follower and holding down the activation key (by default, X, A, or E depending on your controller method). However, going directly to the crosshair control method is the only practical way to use this mod. If this method is new or challenging, more information will be included in the Tips section.
news:
Version 1.2 references the lockpick breakage function, not the number of tokens. This is done exclusively for Inigo and is a feature of similarly configured companions. The goal is better integration with the companion module that already manages the lockpicking skill. See the Version Information section for Inigo-specific comments.
Version 1.1 adds support for Arissa as an MCM option, along with some other minor changes/improvements listed in the version information section below. Note that Arissa will not agree to unlock a player until she deems it high enough (Ally).
Overview:
The reasons that restrict NPCs from successfully opening locks are:
If they have lock points in their inventory,
- If they have the required skill level,
- If they can access the door or chest to get into it.
TLA aims to solve the first and second problems, but not the last.
What limits players is how much expertise they develop in using the crosshair control method. The Tips section below has a short video demonstrating the use of some tips.
NPCs are "recruited" by offering them a TeammateLockpick via the inventory dialogue menu. Players start with three TeammateLockpicks (tokens) in their inventory, and that's all there is in the world forever (default behavior). Players are free to sell, discard, destroy, lose or give them away. They have no value and are in no way special or protected items. There is no limit to who they can give it to, but if it's not a teammate or follower, nothing special happens.
Each TeammateLockpick holds 25 points of their lockpicking skill in the NPC's inventory level (not increased). In this way, players control the skills granted to designated Locksmith Experts by issuing or withdrawing these TeammateLockpicks. Teammates will be fired when TeammateLockpicks are removed from their inventory.
Here's an example of how it works: Faendal has 20 lock skills, so giving him a TeammateLockpick will increase his skill level by 5 to 25. Giving him a second will increase his lock-on skill to 50. Giving the last one to Sophia will bring her to 25 (she starts at 15). Now, Faendal can open locks to 50, and Sofia can open locks to 25, both of which are "recruited" locksmiths. Removing one from the Faendal will bring him back to 25 and players can hold on to that TeammateLockpick until they fin …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
