Are you tired of getting incredibly wealthy very quickly but don't like mods that change the price? Are you looking for a more engaging Money Transfer that will really impact the way you play Skyrim? Of course I did, thus creating a tax of nine taxes.
Taxation for Nine Holds adds a fully customizable tax system to the game, allowing you to tax each individual Hold. If you are unable to pay or choose to refuse payment - the amount you have not paid will be applied to the (non-violent) bounty of the specific retainer you were unable to pay.
This mod requires the following two mods.
SKSE - This adds some scripts required for this mod to run.
SKYUI - This is required for MCM functionality without my mod breaking.
Easy to set up:
Once this mod is installed and SKYUI detects it, you can access the MCM. The menu looks complicated but is simple. Each Hold has three options.
Tax Amount: You set this to the amount of gold you will pay each time you hold this tax.
Tax Interval: You set this value to the number of days between each tax to be retained. If this value is set to 0, the tax will remain disabled.
Current Bounty: This is not actually a setting. It just tells you how much bounty you have on each hold (since it doesn't seem to be in the actual game menu).
You can change these settings at any time, so if you need to adjust it to account for difficulty, or to reflect some big event in your game, you can.
Once you have set your personal preferences - play as you normally would. Soon, the courier will arrive and give you a notice informing you that the tax is due for the holder or holders. Pay (if you can afford it) or refuse, and one will result in you being able to continue on your way as a constructive Skyrim citizen, the other will see the holder of the violation see a bounty on your head. Keep playing until the next tax is due.
Says Hooray Role Play:
Here are some suggestions for playing Nine Taxes, please share your own personal roleplaying suggestions in the comments section.
During civil war, set the opposing faction's holding tax to collect your extortion amount, while your own faction gives you a discount.
As a thief, let the Rift not tax you - giving you a safe haven where you don't have to worry about paying taxes and incentivizing other holders to be sneaky.
Setting high tax rates forces you to find every opportunity to make money as a trader or businessman.
Or set taxes and ignore them to get a true bandit/poacher character on your journey.
As you acquire more houses, followers, and mounts, taxes increase.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: I launched the mod, got the message, but it doesn't appear on the MCM.
A. Give it time, SKYUI will take a while to pick it up.
Q: I have a bounty but the guards won't attack me!
A. Bounties for non-payment of taxes are non-violent, meaning guards will not be on hand to arrest you. You'll get a lot of "I remember you" comments.
Q: What if I kill the courier?
A.After paying tax? Not much, but he won't have your money. If it's before, I imagine others will be dispatched soon. If you keep killing him it will block mod progression, so please don't shoot the courier.
Q: What happens if I keep running away from Express?
A. See comment above about Kill the Messenger advance.
Q: I have changed my mind, how much do I have to pay as a retainer, and when can I change it?
A: The amount you pay in tax is decided when the courier meets you - so you can change your tax before then without any consequences.
Q: I changed my mind, how often should I pay?
A: You can change this at any time, but please note that for best results you should change the interval to 0 for 24 hours before resetting the settings.
Q: I set the interval to one week and the courier visited me within one day! What …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
