About this mod Machine translation

Note Taking adds a player journal to the game, allowing you to create and view your own journal entries.

*** ***renew

I've had success with the import/export functionality by installing FISS for SE after installing this mod and allowing it to overwrite the old FISS files found here. If anyone else can confirm this please let me know.

introduce

This is TakeConti2's Take Notes - the official port of Dragonborn's Journal. I got his permission to continue development in October 2014 and I finally started doing something with it. This is the initial port, no changes are made to the file. Please read the instructions and FAQ before posting a question. Also, see the original mods post for the problem. Many existing problems are solved there.

Development will be slow, please be patient as all source code for the mod has been lost.

I can answer questions to the best of my ability. The following is a rewrite of the original description.

Overview

Take Notes adds a player journal to the game, allowing you to create and view your own journal entries.

How to use

You can bring up the log by pressing the hotkey (default is "X").

Initially it only contains the home page, since there are no entries yet.

You can use the menu

  • Create a new journal entry

*Edit currently displayed entry

*Delete the currently displayed entry

*Close journal

You can hide menus by pressing "Space" and set hotkeys for everything in MCM.

If using a controller, see "Using a Controller" below.

Press F1 to open and close the Help window.

edit mode

After creating a new entry, the log will switch to edit mode.

In edit mode, you can write journal entries. Each entry can contain up to 4000 characters. If you want to change the entry's title (=date), just click on it in edit mode.

To exit edit mode, click Accept or Cancel (or press TAB or ESC).

Zhanghe

Clicking the Chapters button will display a list of chapters on the left side of the book.

Click the chapter again to hide the list again.

Click on a chapter name to select it.

The journal can contain up to five chapters, of which the first chapter can contain up to 612 pages and each chapter can contain up to 127 pages.

The default name for chapters is

*Journal

  • Bestiary

*Task

*personnel

*Miscellaneous

Chapters can be customized by clicking on the name on the chapter home page (right page).

The chapter customization menu allows you to change its name and select images for the chapter's first and left pages.

Chapter customization is very basic right now, but hopefully can be expanded in the future.

MCM menu

In MCM you can choose the theme of your diary ("Dark" or "Books") and change the controls and fonts.

You can also export the journal to a txt file for offline viewing, or export and re-import the journal to XML.

The import and export functionality will not work until FISS is ported or rewritten.

Use the controller

TakeNotes is designed to work best with a mouse and keyboard, but it can also be used with a controller.

All major functions can be assigned to controller buttons in MCM.

Since you can't use the journal's menu, I suggest you just hide it.

Chapter Customization 1.5 does not work with controllers (yet). The only solution now is to use the mouse to set everything as desired and then switch back to the controller.

***Please note I don't use a controller and I can't confirm if it will work with the SSE version at this time***

Custom location/size/space

If you are not in edit mode, you can customize your journal as follows:

SHIFT + ARROW KEYS - Mobile Diary

CTRL+arrow keys - change size and opacity

LOCALIZATION (this requires testing the SSE version as I'm not sure if it works with the current SKSE64 alpha)

Starting with version 1.5, TakeNotes is fully translatable via the SKSE localization system.

Please do not host translated versions of the mod anywhere without explicit permission.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
