I stumbled across the Spectral Warhounds grid, I didn't even know what it was,
And immediately thought how cool it would be to have an undead/ghost dog follower!
But why make a dog when you can make a wolf! ;)
You know what would be cute? ! A puppy!
'Cause the undead/ghost thing is supposed to be cute...right?
so...
Meet Styx!
She starts off as a puppy and grows into an adult wolf.
feature!
Custom behavior! The dogs barked so much I wanted to howl. So Styx is mostly a dog animation, with idle barking instead of howling!
with the player's level. So she's always helpful!
The stealth will not be discovered and the trap will not be set off! Because followers doing this is just...bad.
Necessary. Because killing your companions hurts. Especially when they are puppies. :(
Turn off the vanilla minion system. She won't take Meeko's place! <3
dynamic growth system
Includes a real puppy net! This isn't just a shrunken adult wolf. She actually looks like a puppy!
Growth is gradual! It utilizes a weight slider system! Not just 'poof' you're an adult now. But instead, it's a natural (and lovely) transition ~
Pause or restart her growth at any time. Options can be obtained by chatting with Styx, so they don't clog the main conversation menu.
As she matures, comes confidence, injuries and carrying weight. She starts wimpy and only has a carrying capacity of 50.
Your boot size, what did you expect?
appearance system
Spectral options! Choose a cold or dark version, with white or red eyes!
'Normal' option! Styx has a customizable "normal" skin, or can be used with vanilla black, red or ice wolf skins, compatible with any wolf texture!
(Option available during stealth dialogue)
"Help! I installed the mod but Styx doesn't have any interaction!"
I believe this is an engine issue, the launch enable task (where the dialog comes from) doesn't initialize properly on first load.
It should be fixed using the included .seq file, but if it still happens, try saving and reloading. Reportedly, reinstalling also works.
If this happens to you, please let me know! I've only seen 1 case so far and I'm curious if it was just a one-off fluke..
"Help! Styx ran away without me!"
As a puppy, she was wimpy. She will run away from the fight even if you don't know you are still in it.
She will come back when it is safe and she will grow up soon. Tell her how good she is!
Future plans?
Yeesss!
Check out the stickiness in the comments!
And I always welcome feedback/suggestions! :)
compatibility
Styx will work with any Follower management module! I recommend not actually managing her.
Feel free to experiment if you like, just make sure to back up and save first! ;)
UFO - Styx will ignore all UFO dialogue/commands. I'm not sure how to remove that option from the conversation menu.
AFT - Didn't try to manage, but they ignored each other.
EFF - Didn't try to manage, but they ignored each other.
NFF - If you try to use it to manage Styx, NFF's transparent transparency feature will mess up her spectral effects, even if you turn it off. Nothing game-breaking, she just won't be translucent in spectral form, so it might look a little weird. She'll look great if you use her "normal" skin option!
Wet and Cold - The water drop and frosted effects remove Styx's spectral effects, so she may look weird when it rains/snows/comes out of cold water.
Acknowledgments/Thanks Yous!
While working on this mod I switched between many different guides!
I don't follow any of them exactly, but they all teach me different things!
Thank you to all of them! :)
Jenna's Animal Followers (Script - and Tutorial) (Mod Page) - I started with this, but eventually abandoned this method. It's still good and taught me the basics!

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
