This mod adds more content to the spartan, uncomfortable archaeological digs of Saarthal, a city that was once the capital of Norse civilization but for a time was buried under meters of ice and snow and forgotten.
I have read and seen how archaeological sites are set up to ensure the survival of any specimens/artifacts obtained so that they can ultimately be transported safely to institutions for further study and preservation, and to ensure their well-being. Whether in the scorching deserts or the frigid teeth of the far north, scientists and laborers must spend days or even months at a time unearthing any important discovery in very hostile environments.
But looking at Saarthal, would anyone want to work there without any protection? Or from hostile invaders interested in looting the site and killing anyone who stands in their way? And if you're in trouble, frozen to death, bleeding to death, chased by an angry snowcat, and out in the wasteland without food, water, and much-needed potions, where do you go?
If you prefer playing with immersive mods, you should solve the above problems by turning Saarthal into a safe haven behind which you can warm up, get some decent rest, cook, trade with resident guardian hunters (who can also protect you from determined assassins), and even find a new canine companion.
Feature list
Complimentary linens are provided for you and your entourage when staying overnight on site
The Forge Workstation and Alchemy Laboratory in the Main Overseer's Hut
Cooking in the guard's shelter
Fire for those using Frostfall and other similar immersive mods
You can trade with any of the resident veterans hired to protect the excavation site; they often have to hunt and sell.
The recruitable dog is called Catbane; stats are slightly better than Alert.
The grounds are protected by walls and gates, and guarded by the aforementioned hunters (note that these are high-level NPCs with privileges, unlike vanilla hunters)
As always, the mod has been checked and cleaned using SSEedit. Should be compatible with most mods, except some that may modify Saarthal's outer space.
Installation - Beforehand, make a big save inside any interior (except Saarthal's dungeon) and then install the mod using any Mod Manager.
Uninstall - Make a hard save inside any interior (except Saarthal's Dungeon), then deactivate and uninstall this mod.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
