SSE character specular (and more..) lighting fixes
Yes, this does work.
Due to a bug in the game's character lighting shader, all lighting except diffuse is broken unless your character is pointing north, and even then it doesn't necessarily work properly. This mod is a patched shader file that patches all 384 affected shaders, fixing one of the most egregious bugs in SSE.
Engine restoration?
Due to the severity of the bug and the fact that it doesn't involve the SKSE DLL part at all, it's purely a shader patch, I decided to make it a separate mod.
notes
Install like any other mod. It just replaces the file in the Shaders bsa, so the loose file will overwrite it.
Based on my few minutes of testing, compatible with ENB. I haven't had time to test it extensively, but I designed this fix specifically for ENB compatibility. Obviously ENB may need to be adjusted to account for specular reflection issues working everywhere.
It looks like ENB SSS currently cannot patch shaders correctly. This has to be fixed at the end of ENB and there's nothing I can do about it.
If the fix doesn't work and you use ENB, you may have shader caching enabled and need to remove the shader cache; I don't know if ENB caches these specific shaders.
The MO will now appear as shown below, make sure the data folder is set up correctly. It will work. The shadersfx folder is not yet counted in the MO. This will be fixed in the next MO release.

SSE Character Specular (and more..) Lighting Fix
Yes, this really works.
Due to a bug in the game's character lighting shaders, all lighting other than Diffuse was broken unless your character was pointing straight north, and even then it wasn't necessarily working correctly. This mod is a patched shader file that patches all 384 of the affected shaders, fixing one of the nastiest bugs in SSE.
Engine Fixes??
I decided to make it a separate mod due to the severity of the bug and the fact that it doesn't involve the SKSE DLL part at all, its purely a shader patch.
Notes
Install like any other mod. It just replaces the file that's inside the Shaders bsa, so a loose file will override it.
Compatible with ENB based on my few minutes of testing. I don't really have time to extensively test it but I designed the fix this way specifically to enable ENB compatibility. Obviously ENBs might need to be tweaked to account for specularity working everywhere.
It looks like ENB SSS currently won't patch the shader properly. This has to be fixed on ENB's end, nothing I can do here.
If the fix doesn't work and you use ENB, you might have shader caching enabled and need to delete your shader cache; I don't know if ENB caches these specific shaders or not.
MO will show like this for now, make sure you have the data folder set properly. It will work. The shadersfx folder doesnt count as data in MO yet. This will be fixed next time MO has a release.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
