summary
Armor or robes? You no longer have to make a choice. This mod allows you to craft clothing or light armor to craft all the standard robes of the vanilla game. Available in dragon scale, elven, elven gilded, glass and leather.
So what can you do?
In order to remain as "lore friendly/balanced" as possible, the armored robes you create will have a slightly lower armor level than equivalent vanilla armor, but will be lighter. All items you craft can be enchanted (there are no enchantments by default), and all armor can be tempered.

How do I make it?
Using a tanning rack, all items can be crafted into clothing from scratch. To avoid unnecessary clutter in the Forge crafting menu, armor items will only appear as options in Forge if you have the necessary item in your inventory.
No need to make these robes from scratch, you just need to use the equivalent vanilla armor and some linen wraps to add the "cloth". (This idea was inspired by Rusey's More Triss Armor Recolours UNP and Vanilla (standalone version), check out that mod!). The benefit of this is that you don't need to be able to forge the base armor.
Suppose you want to create an archmage robe using the Elven amor level? First you'll need the vanilla 'Elven Armor', take it into the forge along with a couple of linens - you'll see and be able to craft 'Archmage Robes (Elven)'. If you want to make boots, you need "elf boots" etc.
Is there a conflict?
All items in this mod are added as new items, so should not conflict with any other mod. If you have any retextures or mesh replacements for vanilla robes, this mod should be fully compatible.

How do I craft?
All the items can be crafted from scratch as clothing using the Tanning Rack. In order to avoid unnecessary clutter in the Forge crafting menu, the armored items will only appear as options at the forge once you have the pre-requisite item in your inventory.
Rather than crafting these robes from scratch, you simply need the equivalent vanilla armor and some Linen Wraps for adding the 'cloth'. (inspiration for this idea came from More Triss Armor Recolours UNP and Vanilla (standalone) by Rusey- please go check that mod out!). …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
