describe
Those poor orcs. Everyone seems to be ignoring them, even Bestesda. In Vanilla Skyrim, Orc Longhouses use the same textures as regular farmhouses and some textures from Nordic dungeons, but that doesn't make any sense. The orcs have their own culture and building technology, and while the rest of Skyrim is content to build clones of each other's houses using the exact same materials, the orcs do not. That's where this mod comes in, Orc Longhouses and other Orc stuff now have their own set of textures, with their own design, rather than having to be shared with other architectures in Skyrim. Hope to give Orc Strongholds a unique feel.
Even if you hate Orcs, I believe you can appreciate this mod, as it gives Orc a unique experience, and perhaps experienced players can find a "freshness" with this mod.
I went to great lengths to make the architecture of the Longhouses stand out and look 'Orcish', i.e. rough and unpolished. Obviously these people all have their own culture and way of working, so I try to reflect that in the textures. Being a rough and tough people, their approach to building should be consistent with this. That's why I chose this wood texture. As you can see, it is done with an axe, and is not cut by the lumber mill for use by other races in Skyrim. Orcs handcraft their own houses/structures. The rest of the Orc woodwork is also made from rough wood. You can expect similar logic to the other materials I've used for Orc architecture.
TL;DR: (Seriously? You need a TL;DR for 3 short segments?) Give Orc Longhouses and Strongholds their unique texture sets, because Orcs are special.
I really enjoyed making this mod and deciding which textures fit the logic Orc follows, I hope you enjoy it well :)
Install
This is a very simple installation mode. Just download the installer, run it with your mod manager, select the options you want and install. Make sure the plugin is active in your load order. The order of plugins shouldn't matter too much.
The new Orc Longhouses have their own LODs, previously they shared LODs with the farmhouses, as this DynDOLOD is nessisary to generate and assign LODs correctly.
compatibility
There is a slight conflict with Animated Clutter, this mod overlays a grid: the Orc side table.
Should be compatible with most other things. Apparently, mods that change Orc Longhouses or Strongholds will be incompatible. Only texture sets, statics, and movable statics have been changed. There are no quests, scripts, NPCs, markers, navmesh, etc. The plugin has also been cleaned up.
If any other mod uses vanilla orc documentation then they will most likely be using newer textures as well. However, this depends on the mod. I'll update this section and patch anything it should appear.
“But… I want more details!”, do I hear you?
Here are the changes in more detail:
New textures for Orc architecture.
All Orc meshes in the 'architecture' folder now use included textures.
All Orc Furniture now uses included textures.
Fences (wooden walls) around Orc Strongholds now use included textures.
Where possible, replace "normal" furniture with orc-style furniture.
New thatch roof texture for interior ceiling
Added aspen leaves to the Largashbur Stronghold walkway where aspen trees overhang the wall.
NOTE: I have not touched chests, restaurant clutter or crafting stations as these will be covered by future Spice of Life mods.
performance
Because this mod adds more textures, there may be increased Vram usage. But it's doubtful it will produce a real- …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
