working version
This version 1.0 was tested using Skyrim SE v1.5.80, SKSE64 v2.00.16, SkyUI 5.2 and Spell Research 2.2. I tested it with Vortex v1.0.0 and Mod Organizer 2 v2.2.1.
Older or newer versions of Skyrim, SKSE and SkyUI should also work. If you use a newer version of Spell Research, it may overwrite some of Spell Research's mechanics and potentially break the mod. Therefore, I recommend waiting for an updated version of this mod with each newer version of the Spell Research mod. Since this is the first version of this mod, it may still have some bugs. I encourage you to use the bug reporting feature to tell me bugs and I'll fix them as soon as possible.
I won't create a version for Oldrim or Skyrim VR because I don't use them. I would generally agree to create a version for Oldrim or Skyrim VR with the permissions shown above.
As with most mods, it is recommended to only use the mod with new games. I don't want the mod to cause problems when removed, but no guarantees are given. Also note that the performance of this mod may be slightly less than ideal. If anyone wants to share some advice on how to improve performance, I'd be very grateful.
MCM menu and resolution
I tested the mod with a resolution of 1680x1050. I've also tried other resolutions but am not sure if other resolutions will display the book correctly. Therefore, the mod has its own MCM-Menu called "Spell Research Book".
If the in-game book is too small or too large, you can change the horizontal and vertical scale in the MCM menu. You can also change the horizontal and vertical position of your book in the menu. Finally, there is an option to assign a hotkey to open the book directly.
replaceable images
The images in this mod can be replaced if you or other imitators want to use their own images. The image can be found in the "/data/interface/SpellResearchBook/" folder and should be in .dds texture format with a size of 256x256 pixels.
Spoiler alert: the files in this folder have prototype names as file names, so don't look in this folder if you don't want to be spoiled.
If you create new images for this mod, I would be happy if you leave me a comment and, if you like, quote them on this page. Using animated images is possible, but won't work out of the box. If you would like to use animated images, please drop me a message and we can work out the details.
translate
For performance reasons, the text in this book is currently hardcoded and therefore cannot be translated.
I include German and French versions though. If you want to use the German or French version, just overwrite the "spellresearch_book.swf" file in the "data/interface" directory with the file "spellresearch_book_DE.swf" (German) or "spellresearch_book_FR.swf" (French) in the same directory (e.g. delete the file "spellresearch_book.swf" and replace the file "spellresearch_book_DE/ FR.swf" was renamed to "spellresearch_book.swf").
I will also contact the authors of the Polish, Russian and Chinese versions of Spell Research and ask if I can include their translations.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
