Before I begin…
This is just SORT's special edition mod page. Big shout out to Mator, without him this would have been possible :)
introduce
What's this? Another sort of mod?? How many of these have been released? ! ? Don't fret, this time is slightly different.
Script Overrides to Rewrite Things (SORT for short) is CK or TES5Edit's new take on the traditional sorting approach. Compatibility has been the biggest issue with item classifiers due to the ever-increasing number of mods that edit and add item values. Ideally, only the name value should be changed. But when one mod wants to change another record, things start to conflict. This was a big issue with my original mod, Skimim's Superior Sorting, but has been fixed thanks to Mator's zEdit Unified Patch Framework (UPF).
How does UPF make it different from other sorting modes?
compatibility. SORT is different for everyone. Since UPF has access to your mod list, it can generate a single .esp based on what you have installed (similar to SkyProc). This vanilla Skyrim game hopefully doesn't have any unnecessary conflicts with SORT. That's not to say the mods are incompatible, they just need to be bundled with patches. Feel free to comment which mods you'd like to see supported and I'll do my best to mate with SORT.
Additionally, there is a category favorites menu for optional downloadable patches, if available. I do this, if you don't you should check it out! :)
What does it do?
Item names in Skyrim are great for knowing which ones are, but when your inventory starts building, it can be difficult to find where certain items are. SORT simply renames certain items around the world so that they are good in player inventories/chests.
Nothing else has changed, just the project name. As of v1.0.0, projects with sorted names include:
+Ammunition (arrows/bolts etc.)
+Alchemical items (ingredients/potions/poisons, etc.)
+ Books (journals/notes/recipes, etc.)
+Food (cheese/drinks/charcuterie, etc.)
+Other items (gems/ingots/soul gems, etc.)
+Spells (hand-drawn/scrolled/spell books, etc.)
+Weapons (Staff)
Aside from the staff, I haven't touched the weapons and armor yet. I've always thought they were easy to read, grouped by material, etc. If there is an item you think should be renamed, or some naming convention could be used, please let me know.
What is it compatible with?
Likewise, SORT is compatible with any mod that changes vanilla Skyrim items, as well as the category favorites menu. These are mods like BCS, WAFR and CCF. I'm currently working on CACO, which adds and renames items in the game. For consistency, a different version is being developed to support it. Again, if there's another mod out there, please let me know.
Starting with the latest version, supported mods are added as major to SORT patches:
+All Skyrim unofficial patches
+ aMidianBorn content add-on
+Apocalypse - Demons of Skyrim
+Complete production overhaul and reconstruction
+Stealth skills rebalanced
+ Dawnguard Crossbow Explosive Bolt Visualization
+Element Staff
+book cover skyrim
Other projects currently being worked on are:
+Complete Alchemy and Cooking Overhaul
+Hunter Byrne
+Immersive Creatures
+Immersive weapons
+Legendary Crossbow
+ Morrowloot Ultimate
+ Bruma
+ Immersive armor
+Legacy of Soaring Dragon
How to rename a project?
Similar items are given prefixes, allowing them to be sorted into groups when viewed in an inventory. I tried to retain some of the traditional meaning of the word.
+Arrow - Iron
+Journals - Nepos'
+Letter from Captain Aldis of Gorm
+Recipes - Potions, Fear
+ Spell Tome - Conjure Atronach:Flame
+mead, black briar
+meat - cooked, beef
+egg - eagle
+Mountain Flower-Red
+ Dwemer Scrap Metal - Lever, Large
+Gemstone - Garnet, flawless
+Ingot - Steel
+pelt - saber cat, snow
+Potion - Enhanced Illusion, III
+Poison - Damage Stamina, four
+Scroll - Shock II: Lightning Bo …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
