Allows the blacksmithing perk to be applied more consistently across all armor and weapon types and provides a more balanced blacksmithing experience.
This mod started out as simply changing the Smithing perk to apply more consistently to all armor and weapon types. However, with the addition of the new perk tree and additional arrangements, I feel this mod succeeds in providing a more balanced blacksmithing experience, with better perk selection and more logical perk progression.

Loading Smith Special Overhaul after weapons armor clothing and sundry repairs.
It is recommended that you install this mod on new games, especially if you select the New Perk Tree option.
If you choose to install the New Perk Tree version on an existing game, any current blacksmith perks (except Basic Smithing and Arcane Blacksmith) will be removed when you first load the game, and you will receive the same number of bonus points to reallocate as you wish. You must have SKSE installed for this to work. If you do not have SKSE installed, you must use the console to add/remove privileges for existing games.
compatibility
This mod will be incompatible with any mod that changes the Smithing Perk tree.
This mod should be fully compatible with mods that add new weapons or armor.
Additional Information
This mod does not make fixes to weapons and armor or add missing crafting recipes. This mod just changes the perk tree to improve balance
and consistency of privileges applied in the game.
OPTIONS
There are two different perk tree options for you to choose from. The improved Vanilla Perk Tree is closer to the original vanilla perk tree while making some basic changes to improve consistency. New Perk Tree departs a bit from the vanilla design, but goes a step further to address some of the issues with the vanilla perk tree. Just download and install whichever one you like.
IMPROVED VANILLA PERK TREE
This option retains the light/heavy split of the vanilla forge tree, but modifies the perks so they will be more consistently applied to items in the game. This release includes the following changes:
The Orcish Smithing perk has been renamed "Advanced Heavy Smithing" and now allows you to further upgrade Steel Plate armor, Honed Draugr weapons, Blades armor and weapons, Nordic armor and weapons, and Chitin Heavy armor. In the vanilla game, these items are instead affected by the Advanced Smithing effect on the light side of the trees.
The Daedric Smithing perk was moved from the heavy side of the tree and instead added as an offshoot of the Arcane Blacksmith perk. Daedric Smithing now needs to have the perks of Arcane Smithing and Ebony Smithing. This resolves the inconsistency in perk progression from daedric to dragon and allows players, if they wish, to pursue only one of these high-level perks. This is a very friendly and logical arrangement, as the daedric items are ebony items magically infused with the daedra's soul. This arrangement can also help enhance roleplaying options for "good" characters who may wish to avoid all association with daedric items.
Adjusted the shape of the perk tree to better fit the shape of the constellation.

New PERK tree
This option redesigns the forge tree to more completely address some of the inconsistencies and imbalances in the Smithing perk. This version fixes several issues with the vanilla Smith perk:
A big problem with the vanilla perk tree is that the distribution between light and heavy materials doesn't exactly line up with weap …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
