About this mod Machine translation

Edited labels for vanilla NPCs to accurately and immersively represent their mortality rates. The way tags are selected increases Dragonborn's options while limiting the ways in which the game can be broken or soft-locked without input.

Smarter Non-Required Tags (SNeT)

A lightweight mod that does what it says on the tin:

NPC tags have been edited so that the vast majority of content is rendered unnecessary, with some caveats.

Unique ghosts and unique beasts/dragons are unaffected, as are followers and children.

NPCs now do not have the necessary tags or have been given the "Protect" tag if they are going to spawn or are constantly in dangerous locations.

Protected tags allow NPCs to enter a bleeding phase before death, where enemy NPCs will ignore them. Players can still kill them. This is a standard tag in the Skyrim engine.

What time is it:

Although smarter than simply making all essential NPCs killable, this mod will not stop or notify you if you invalidate a quest or questline by killing a warden.

This mod only affects vanilla NPCs, no DLC, as I feel like I don't know enough about the DLC NPCs to accurately issue the appropriate tags.

If you want to be put on a government watch list, consider downloading AFT/UFO to control followers and killable children.

Works well with Run for Life

If you feel an NPC should have the 'protected' tag but doesn't, or vice versa, please let me know.

Use your brain for all of the above because this MOD doesn't have one.

Smarter Non-essential Tags (SNeT)

A lightweight mod that does what it says on the tin:

NPC tags have been edited so that the overwhelming majority are now non-essential with a few caveats.

Unique ghosts and unique beasts/dragons are not affected, neither are followers nor children.

NPCs now have no essential tag or have been given the 'protected' tag if they are to spawn or regularly be in positions of danger.

The protected tag allows an NPC to enter a bleedout stage before death where they will be ignored by enemy NPCs. The player, however, can still kill them. This is a standard tag in the Skyrim engine.

A couple points:

Despite being smarter than simply making all essential NPC killable, this mod will not stop or notify you if you are making quests or questlines invalid by killing questgivers.

This mod only affects vanilla NPCs, no DLC as I felt I didn't have enough knowledge of the DLC NPCs to accurately dish out the appropriate tags.

Consider downloading AFT/UFO to control followers and Killable Children if you feel like being put on a government watchlist.

Works well with Run For Your Lives

If you feel like an NPC should have the 'protected' tag and doesn't, or vice versa, let me know.

ABOVE ALL USE YOUR BRAIN, BECAUSE THIS MOD DOESN'T HAVE ONE.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
