Hi!

This mod was originally made by Svartberg for old Skyrim. I just ported it to Skyrim SE with his permission (see 4th picture).

Old Skyrim original mod:

Here is the original text he wrote as instructions, with adjustments:

Tired of how every little thing you do in Skyrim levels you up?

Are there limitations on which skills to use or dungeons to explore out of fear of leveling up and the whole world changing?

Want to maximize your role at the end of the game instead of at the beginning?

Then this mod is for you.

If you want to use an unrelated skill occasionally, slowing down your progress encourages exploration, challenge, and more tolerance.

This mod was inspired by Slower Leveling with tutorials. no longer valid

Slower levels can be installed/used/removed at any time without messing up your save or character - as this will only slow down actual skill acquisition.

This also means it doesn't mess up the skill/level ratio.

Values based on latest Skyrim version 1.7.7.0. no longer valid

Install

Normal Edition - Simply reduce the speed of all skills by the given factor, choose between 2x/3x/4x/5x NOT IN THE PORT.

Fixed version - Trying to balance some skills that are too fast compared to others. (e.g. enchantments, pickpockets, etc.)

Help, I don't know which factor to use!

There's a quick trick to find the ratio that works for you in 2 minutes.

  • Save where you maximize your combat power (or your most recent save if you haven't maxed it out yet)

•Consider how much more content (quests/explorations) you should complete to reach your current level. (For most players it will be 2/3x)

  • Assuming 2x, the previous game now loads in half the game time. (shown in loading screen)

•You can now see your character levels/skills/gear using scaling.

•Again, remember there is just so much content in the game, which is why I personally use 2x.

Fixed version changes:

  • Enchanting - Basically, it's slower on lower levels, but the same on higher levels.

The reason is that at lower levels it's so fast that you actually increase your skill with every enchantment.

Unfortunately, skills operate at a fixed rate regardless of enchantments/soul gems, so making it slower at higher levels just makes it harder.

•Pickpocket - Same as early, but 4x slower at the end of the skill.

It used to be possible to level up with almost every theft, especially gaining higher value stolen items as you progressed.

  • Illusion - closer to other magic skills - slowed down by 3x early on and 1.5x at the end of the skill.

For example, previously characters like Thief would create illusions twice as fast as invisibility, which didn't make sense and could break transparency.

fixed version technology

•[1.1] Illusion - Skill increase by 3 points, skill increase offset by 500.

•[1.1] Pickpocket - Skill increase multiplier 1, skill increase offset 125. (The correct formula is wrong)

•[0.8] Enchantment - Skill increase 0.9, skill increase offset 1333.

Tired of how every little thing you do in skyrim levels you up?

Feel you're limiting which skill you use, or dungeon to visit because you're afraid of leveling up and the whole world changing?

Want to play a game where you max your character towards the end of the game and not in the beginning?

Then this mod is for you.

Slowing down leveling encourages exploration, challenge and also more forgiving if you want to use unrelated skills every once in a while.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
