upgrade

This mod will cap your XP below the level you need to level up. All excess XP is saved until you fall asleep. Details are as follows:

Even if you have reached the XP cap, your skills will increase normally.

All XP above the cap will be saved for later use.

You can only upgrade once in 24 hours.

The next time you sleep for at least 8 hours straight, you'll earn enough saved XP for you to level up. After closing the skills menu, all saved XP will be available to you except this one. If you have enough saved XP for the next upgrade, your XP will be capped below it. The remaining XP is still saved for you, but you must wait 24 hours to earn it.

When you wake up after sleeping for 8 hours, the "Skill Menu" will automatically open and force you to level up immediately. *

Accumulated bonus points

This mod also prevents you from spending extra points unless you get 8 consecutive hours of sleep. Details are as follows:

Any Perk points you don't spend immediately after leveling up will be removed from the character and saved for later use.

After getting at least 8 consecutive hours of sleep, you will have the opportunity to spend your reward points. They will be returned to you and the Skills Menu will automatically open. *Any perks you don't spend will be removed from your character again and saved until the next time you sleep for at least 8 hours continuously. Unlike upgrading, you don't have to wait 24 hours to upgrade again.

*About skill menu opens automatically. This only happens if the key that opens the skill menu is mapped (which is the default). This is because the script opens the menu by faking keystrokes. If you don't have a key mapped to this, don't worry! I've come up with a workaround.

The script disables your movement, attacks, and a few other functions before trying to press a key (are you, uh, still sleeping?). Manually turning the Skill Menu on and off will revert these things back to the way they were before this mod disabled them (meaning, if you had any of these things disabled beforehand, it would still function as expected).

If upgrading is possible, you must do so before closing the Skills Menu, otherwise the content will not be restored and you will have to reopen it and upgrade before closing it again. You can't avoid opening the Skill Menu immediately after closing it to level up.

I recommend just mapping a button to the "Skills Menu" and letting the menu open automatically. It will give you the most immersive experience.

future plans

From the initial release, everything is hardcoded. I plan to change this and tie it to a global variable that can be changed via xEdit. This could include things like how long you have to sleep to level up, how long you have to wait after leveling up before leveling up again, whether you're allowed to spend extra points without sleeping, and whether you need to level up, such as getting up right after going to bed.

I'm not sure if I want to create an MCM for the above. The MCM can get cluttered and cumbersome if you need to use many mods, and the settings are configured to my personal preference anyway. I can do that if the need arises.

Added functionality to prevent Health/Magicka/Stamina rehydration when leveling up. For most people, this won't matter since these things will be recovered from the previous sleep anyway. However, for those of us who wish to use the "no/very low health updates" mod, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Added functionality to limit how many perk points you can spend at one time.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
