About this mod Machine translation

Potions and poisons become more realistic and dangerous. Great for role playing and survival.

The vanilla potion is too easy to use and the poison is too weak. In Skytoxin, poison is the only thing you really need to be afraid of, and almost all potions come with side effects, just like real medicine.

Skytoxin has not touched the alchemy technology tree and has barely changed the ingredients. There are naturally side effects to what you brew yourself, and Skytoxin focuses on default potions and poisons if you mix them wrong.

With rare exceptions, every potion carries a penalty. Just like in real life, taking medications can cause side effects. The more powerful the potion, the greater the side effects.

Using potions to restore health will exhaust you, thus draining stamina. Health-enhancing potions will work to a greater extent than in the vanilla game, and will be useful in the short term. However, they can have negative long-term effects, as they gradually drain the user's health over time.

Using a potion to restore stamina in some way has an impact on the user's health. It can be compared to doping; putting chemicals into the body to enhance performance is not healthy.

Magic-restoring potions have a temporary effect that makes the user more vulnerable to magical attacks, and in some cases, they can also be a bit poisonous.

Potions that strengthen different types of skills are usually just a little bit poisonous in order to be associated with the rest of the mod (such as a lock-on, speech, or exercise potion), otherwise they will negatively affect certain types of skills in the opposite way.

Most poisons have been renamed after real-life toxins (like tetrodotoxin) or based on some system that sounds feasible and allergy-friendly (like necrotoxin). Poisons that damage health are often more effective than those needed to remove the victim. Their damage will depend on how much health they have to deal damage. This is inspired by the LD50 system, but is not based on the real-life LD50 system used to classify toxicity.

A single dose of Curare, a weaker poison, is enough to kill some weaker humans, while others are too strong. However, one dose of the most potent poison of all, botulinum toxin, was enough to kill more than 120 of Skyrim's mammoths. This is obviously not a necessary gameplay mechanic, but considering that 500 grams (17.6 ounces) of this toxin is estimated to be capable of killing every human being on the planet, it was considered a necessary feature to implement in order to at least come close to reality. There's no denying that poison does do a lot of damage, which is one of the reasons why this mod is best played on higher difficulties.

Both normal and lingering health-damaging poisons cause damage over time. Normal will increase potency and duration the better. However, the lingering one will be weaker, but also have a significantly higher duration (a few real hours at most). Therefore, the latter category can be a great asset for role-playing purposes. The duration of poisons that simply paralyze the victim is also increased significantly.

The really interesting poisons can be found in the categories of fear and fanaticism. Low level restrictions have been greatly increased so that the toxin will affect most people and animals. Some of the more potent Zealot poisons actually provide the victim with massive health and attack power, which can lead to considerable chaos, such as in a bandit den or even in a city. This is a more subtle alternative to magic and more realistic. Some of these toxins are based on real-life anesthetic agents, such as phencyclidine (PCP). However, for those people, the scientific name is retained to point out that it is about the effects of the toxin, not to make the game inappropriate.

Your own poison arsenal isn't the only thing that's been improved. Trap Darts, Spiders, Chaurus and Falmer all now pose a deadlier threat. Being stung or bitten is something that should defini …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
