SkyRem Guide
Skyrim Roleplaying Enhanced Edition Guide
What is SkyRem? Yes - SkyRem is an acronym (this is probably pretty obvious if you happen to delve into any of my mods). This starts with a desire to tweak character creation and development; just a little bit. and has grown into a series of mods and is now my working guide.
My goal is the ultimate roleplaying experience with Skyrim. Alone, this is a great game. With the participation of the mod community, it has become an extraordinary game. This, along with the handful of mods I've written, is my attempt to give back to the community (or at least contribute in some way).
There are already great guides out there, with different focuses, different goals, etc. After countless hours of playing with other guides, adding, subtracting, changing...this guide is my "finished product" based on my priority of achieving perfect Skyrim. While I say "finished product," I really mean that it will produce good playback results.
As the name suggests, this guide is designed for roleplaying. This is not a design difficulty or beautification focused mod guide. One might argue that difficulty is incorporated simply through the nature of the role-playing focus and modifications. Beautification - I will include this in its own guide section. I did use some of them, although they didn't add to the spirit of the guide itself.
SkyRem Mod Guide Priority:
stability
performance
mechanics
content
aesthetics
Documents related to the guidance will be available on. Use the SkyRem Guide link above to get the guide itself.
Guide information
The guide is divided into several sections:
Step One: You have to spend some time preparing your setup on the front end.
How to do it: There are many different tools and techniques required for correct modification. This page will help you navigate these processes.
Core Guide: This is the majority of the guide for the game.
Expansion Guide: Add-on modules that focus on mechanics and content, but are not necessary for the roleplaying I want to achieve.
Visual Guide: This section is more like a Mod List (vs. a Mod Guide - there's a difference), containing the Aesthetic mods I use.
Final Steps: The final steps needed to put “all the work” together. This is mostly patching and MCM settings.
Guide function
This guide aims to achieve the following goals:
Provides a stable and performance-friendly setup.
Includes detailed installation and usage instructions for various modification tools.
Allows for simplified and easy-to-understand modding methods.
Patches are available to ensure various settings work together.
This guide does not include:
Including ENB or reshape: I don't use them and don't care about them. The performance trade-off is (IMO) not worth it.
Includes dead mods: mods that have not been updated in a year or mods with unanswered (or excessive) bug reports/comments.
Including CBBE: Very little I do in this area is UNP.
Includes 4k+: Whenever possible, I use up to 2k.
That's not to say any of the above doesn't apply to the guide, but I can't provide support for something I don't use or an issue I can't reproduce.
do it
- Complete the final steps (patch)
- Complete extension and visual guide
- Add a picture (I know this sucks)
- Fix bugs I may have missed.
As guides provide patches for development of various builds (core, extensions, etc.)
I cannot guarantee compatibility with mods outside of the guide.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
