What's this?

Skyrim Script Extender (SKSE) is a front-end tool used by many Skyrim mods to extend scripting capabilities and add additional functionality to the game.

Once installed, there are no additional steps required to launch Skyrim with the SKSE add-on feature. You can launch the game using SKSE from skse64_loader.exe.

Compatible

SKSE64 supports the release of Skyrim on Steam and GOG. Other stores (EGS, Windows Store, Game Pass) are not supported.

Installation method

  • Download the compressed package.
  • Extract all files to the game root directory (where Skyrim.exe is located).
  • Use skse64_loader.exe to run the game.
  • To confirm it's working, open the console using the tilde key and type `getskseversion`. This will display the version number of the current SKSE version.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
