Sinister Seven is a background exploration line. Seven assassins are sent to kill the player, taking place across multiple levels. This gives the minions to track and seven intense single-player duels as the assassin chases the player across the country. It's intended to give an open-ended background storyline, as well as a sense of being hunted. I found Skyrim to be a very static experience, going from one point to another and slaughtering my way through a grubby, slack-jawed world in one place. With this mod, they will proactively seek you out. Now you are the prey!
By default, hired minions will appear periodically based on time to chase the player. After level 12, the assassin boss will also appear to fight you. They appear every two levels, for a total of 12 levels, with options to reach the end of the test line. However, all these values can be modified in the MCM menu. You have few minions, up to ten per spawn event, and one spawn event occurs as rarely as often as you want. You can also choose how to stagger boss appearances.
These seven duels should not be an easy match. It’s hard, but winnable and hopefully memorable. Each of the seven unique assassins are at least twice the player's level, and they are tracked across the map. They're also full of unique abilities, outside of your normal Skyrim bandits, so may lead to unusual combat tactics in order to win the battle. Some may be more challenging for specific player archetypes, while others are less challenging. They may appear while you sleep, when you explore a cave, or just on the road. You can try fighting them, or run into the wilderness, which should give you some time, but don't expect them to give up. Eventually they will follow you. Use your cunning to escape and ultimately defeat them. Jump off waterfalls to dramatically gain time, lead them through a series of traps Rambo style, make friends who will look after you and do whatever you have to do to survive.
Tip: If you want total control over when a boss comes to you (or have any difficulty with bosses appearing), then set the boss compensation value very high (like 100 horizontal offsets, increasing by 2 for each successive boss). Then, when you want a boss to appear on the next level, reset a boss's value to 0 (I find that I don't have to worry about bosses appearing on me in Black Dadar when I want to do other things in the game). Soon enough, after you level up, a Badaz boss will be breathing its stink down your neck faster than you can say, "I love this mode!"
Content: A supported sideline that runs as the player progresses through the levels. 17 new NPCs who seek out and attempt to track players. 7 unique masks and unique magic, two unique sets of armor and standard spells. New skills, fighting styles, artificial intelligence and more.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
