Provides score display function for archery targets in the game. Every time a bow arrow hits the target, a message displays showing which archery ring you hit, the distance of the shot, and your score.
What does this mod do?
This mod adds new archery targets to the game with a score display feature.
When you shoot an arrow with a range weapon - a bow or crossbow, it will give you a message that is displayed on the upper left screen. The message will show which archery circle you hit (bull's eye, first ring, second ring, etc.), the distance of the shot, and the score you earned on that shot.
You can also hit armored targets with the throwing knives and javelins added in JZBai's Throwing Weapons Lite SE mod, with the same score as shown when using a bow or crossbow.
You can see the mod demo video below:
Currently I've added five new archery targets to the game with score display functionality. They are located in five major cities (Whiterun, Solitude, Riverden, Wyndhem, Malkas), each of which adds one such target.
The image below shows the locations of the five newly added archery targets:
Objectives in the Great Porch of Whiterun Dragonsreach:
Lonely target near Castle Castle:
Targets guarded by Markarth Understone:
Goals of the King's Palace of Winds:
Objectives in the Rift near Mist Keep:
How does the scoring system work?
Score depends on the distance of your shot and the archery ring it hits.
The scoring criteria in the archery circle are not like the real world. The closer you are to the target, the higher your score.
Unlike this, it calculates points based on the archery difficulty level the player hits in the game.
According to my testing in the game, the edge ring is the easiest ring to hit, then the first ring, then the second ring, then the third ring, and the most difficult is the bullseye.
Therefore, I now calculate the fraction using the method shown below:
Please note that this grading rubric is temporary and may change in the future.
If you have a better idea on how to calculate the fraction, please give me your suggestion.
Compatibility issues:
Compatible with the following mods:
Archery target texture (recommended): Replace the high-quality archery target texture with a high-quality archery texture, greatly improving the visual effect. If you use this mod with my mod, don't forget to download the compatibility patch! (You can now directly download the standalone texture replacement files)
Throwing Weapons Lite SE: Hitting targets with throwing knives and javelins will also display scores.
Training Dummies and Target Special Edition:
SMIM: Compatible.
Jabber's 2K Archery Target: Compatible.
Incompatible mods:
- Other texture replacement mods that replace vanilla archery target textures may not be compatible with my mod.
- The other mod places the new object in the exact same location as my newly added archery target.
Known issues:
- When the bash attack using crossbow hits the target, the archery target will still display the score message. This is due to the script function defect of the on hit event that cannot exclude the result of the bash attack. I haven't figured out how to fix it yet. But it's not a big problem.
- The distance displayed is the distance between the player and the target when the target is hit. Therefore, if you want to get accurate range display and scoring, you should remain stationary during the time between firing the round and the time it hits the target.
- You cannot hit the target too often or the message will not be displayed correctly.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
