Independent hood USSEP
Obviously, this requires USSEP.
All hooded clothing has been removed from the game with one exception (the hooded Thalmor robes in the Thalmor Embassy).
Any equipment record that includes a hooded robe now includes separate hoods and robes. Any hooded robes found in the world have been replaced by their non-hooded versions (with the exceptions mentioned above). Any hooded robes in the level list have been removed.
Arch-Mage's Hood/Robe: At the end of the Academy questline, you will receive the hoodless robe instead of receiving the hooded robe. The hoodless robes normally available in Arch-Mage's dormitories (at least with USSEP) have been replaced by Arch-Mage hoods. This means you can steal the hood (and boots), but you have to actually become an Arch-Mage to receive the robes; if you don't want to steal, becoming an Arch-Mage will grant you access to the entire outfit. Arch-Mage's Hood provides Magicka with a 50 point boost.
Mythic Dawn Hood/Robe: The hooded Mythic Dawn Robe found in Silus' home has been replaced by the Mythic Dawn Hood. A Myth Dawn Hood also has
was added to Silus' equipment, meaning you get two sets if he happens to die. The mythical Dawn Hood is unaware.
Black Mage Hood: Since the hooded black mage robes were removed, the unplayable Black Mage Hood has been made playable. This can be found in several NPCs (Atub, Malyn Varen, Logrolf the Willful, and some enemies in Labyrinthian). In addition, a black mage hood is added to the Orchendor's costume.
Blue Mage Hood/Robe: The hood on the Blue Mage Robe has been removed and a separate Blue Mage Hood (with Fortify Magicka enchantment) has been added. Additionally, one of the two pairs of Blue Mage Robes in Angeline's Aromatics has been replaced by a Blue Mage Hood.
Thalmor Hood: Obviously, you must snatch these things from the Thalmor. Thalmor Hood is unknown.
Necromancer Hood: Hoods can be found on some Necromancers (usually bosses) as well as Radiant Raiment, along with robes (why they have them, I will never know). The necromancer's hood is immune to magic.
Monk / Brown / Grey / Red / Green / Blue / Black Turbans / Robes: A variety of common turbans and robes are available at Radiant Raiment.
Dunmer Hoods/Outfits: You can buy these from Fethis Alor in Solstheim. Dunmer Hoods are unknown.
Thalmor Robes, standard Necromancer Robes, Mythic Dawn Robes, and all three Dunmer Outfit variants have had their charms removed so they can now gain custom enchantments.
You can also find previously unavailable varsity hoods and robes at Radiant Raiment.
Pointless extras:
Any unenchanted wizard robes found in the world (identical to blue robes) have been replaced by blue robes. I don't see two identical items in the game.
Added some boots to Ilas-Tei and Borvir's outfits since I'm editing their outfits. No boots in Winterhold? crazy. No wonder they are dead.
- Optional files -
Separate hood does not have USSEP
Same as main file, but USSEP is not required. There is only one record difference between the two. I wasn't originally planning on using the non-USSEP version, but I thought it would make people happy.
- Other documents -
Separate Hood Raw Arch-Mage Gear
Requires main or optional files. Removed enchantments from Arch-Mage robes, boots, and hoods so you can enchant them yourself.
separate hood wearable circle
Requires main or optional files. Allows you to wear the circle using a separate hood.
Stand-alone hood add-on combination
Requires main or optional files. A combination of the above two misc files.
- Install and load orders -
To install, use the "Mod Manager Download" button or the "Manual Download" button and extract the download into the main Skyrim SE directory. The main file should be loaded after the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch (USSEP) and the Cutting Room Floor, if you are using it.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
