Saiska TextureScaler Batch 1.0 aka "Back up and scale everything down while I'm doing something less boring"
Hi everyone, I made this little program to shrink every texture for every mods since my 2 VRAM is low to fit my 200+ mods. Also, sometimes great mods come with 4096² textures and no 1k/2k options.
It does:
It shrinks each texture (using DDS format) to the size you want; shrinks the mipmap (it doesn't break it)
Automatically back up or restore backups before shrinking, allowing you to test different sizes
Backups can be located in skyrim's DATA directory, or any subdirectory containing the "textures" directory. So it can point it to the MO2 "mods" directory, allowing you to backup each mods texture if said mod has a "textures" directory.
I've done this for SSE, but it will work for anything using DDS. Any Bethesda game should be fine. F4, FNV, F3, OB,…
It doesn't:
Automatically decompress BSA files to shrink these textures. If you need it, you have to unpack it yourself.
The files contain the source code (C#), so if you know a little bit, it's easy to adapt to your needs. You can use/reuse/modify/whatever you want; a simple quote or link to this page is perfectly fine.
If you are interested in adding suggestions, please feel free to ask in the posts section. Can't make any promises, but I'll watch.
How to use it:
-source“c:\ whatever \ skyrim \”
Sets the texture directory for scaling. For mo2 users, please locate "c:\XXX\mo2dirs\mods\"; you can see it on the mo2 settings page.
If you put the skyrim directory, it will backup the /processdata/textures directory; in the backup you will find data/textures/[all texture files]
For mo2, in the backup you will find a directory for each mod with a texture dir. Only the texture dir is in the backup.
-backup“c:\ whatever \ backupdirectory \”
Set the directory that all textures will be backed up or restored from.
-size 1024 or -s 1024
Requires all textures with superior width or height to be resized to this size.
2048*2048 will be adjusted to 1024*1024
512*512 texture will remain unchanged
2048*1024 texture will be resized to 1024*512
-div 4 or -d 4
Divide each texture size by 4. (I set "safety" at 256px. A 256*256 texture or lower will remain the same. No matter what your computer is like, you certainly don't want it to go lower than that?)
-result or -r
The size of the directory(s) before and after resizing will be displayed.
-pattern ABcDe or -p ABcDe
Only textures containing the text ABcDe in their name will be processed. Can be used multiple times. If multiple patterns are entered, any match is considered OK. It only works for resizing, not backups.
-exclude ABcDe or -e ABcDe
Only textures containing the text ABcDe in their name will not be processed. Can be used multiple times. If multiple exclusions are entered, any match is considered invalid. It only works for resizing, not backups.
-refreshbackup or -rb
Copy every new texture (and only new textures, it won't erase already backed up textures) to the backup. Do this every time you add a mod that you want to scale.
-refreshsource or -rs
Every texture in the backup path will be restored. If you do a refresh too, it will refresh the source after refreshbackup. It will only refresh the texture if the size of the backup texture is different (i.e. has been reduced or changed in some way)
Change log
1.1
Patterns can be used multiple times and exclusions added
Corrected a strange alpha issue on the normal map
Display a message when the texture directory is not found
Added simpler alternative code
1.0

Hello everyone …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
