Riverside Shack is a unique and fully customizable player. You must rebuild the old structure after defeating the already inhabited Saber Cat. The hut is part of the vanilla game, but it really doesn't have much of a purpose. In addition to customization options, the mod also includes some great features
Riverside Shack is an old abandoned dwelling in southwest Windhelm, east of Gallows Rock and along the White River. In the vanilla game, it serves little purpose other than housing a flat animal, usually a saber-toothed cat. This mod aims to get more use out of the abandoned cabin by allowing the player to rebuild the broken structure and turn it into a comfortable home for the player to come back to after his/her adventures.
The mod comes with a short quest that provides some backstory to the previous owner and offers small rewards depending on the path you choose. Building a home is a simple process that works similarly to the Hearthfire system. Tutorials are provided as you enter various parts of the mod, eliminating the need for written documentation.
Version 3.0 was created from the ground up to replace all previous iterations of the mod with a simpler, immersive and fitting design. Old, obsolete and irrelevant features have been removed in favor of a more suitable experience. Items are now available from Mixwater Mill, without any compatibility issues plaguing older versions of this mod.
Riverside Shack now has a story, and its complete rebuild and redesign. This is a short mission and very quick to complete, especially if you take the easier route. However, the consequences of your actions will have a lasting impact on the mod long after the mission is completed. You can read the spoilers below for brief information about the mission, especially if you encounter the aftermath of the action and aren't sure if it's part of the mod.

The only compatibility issue with this mod will be editing any content in the same cell as this mod. A popular mod that is known to have issues is Inconsequential NPC, as it places the actor at home. Past versions of the mod placed a merchant in Ivarstead or changed Gwilin. This resulted in multiple compatibility issues, and as a result, this mod no longer has any links with Ivarstead or its inhabitants.
Since this mod is a "no load gate" player, rain occlusion is an issue in Skyrim Legacy, leading me to create an effect similar to that seen in the famous mod Real Shelter. This also means that the weather module will need to create patches for the system to continue to work. Given that Bethesda has implemented rain occlusion in the new engine, those who download and use the Special Edition of this mod will not encounter this issue.
If you encounter any weird issues with other mods, please let me know via the bugs section on the mod page as I can review them and fix them in a future update.
Many thanks to simsim899 for continuing to assist with testing the mod, providing valuable feedback, and doing some mesh collisions when needed.
I would also like to thank Black Knight for the custom workbench, which was originally created for Claywater Retreat. He also made some changes to the windows to make sure they matched well.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
