About this mod Machine translation
Makes Skyrim look like a mid-90s DOS game. Adjustable ENB post-processing effects to simulate a retro look by using pixelation, post-scaling and ordered dithering. As a finishing touch, this effect simulates an old-school CRT monitor by using a screen curve effect along with scan lines and vignettes.
NOTE: This mod does not improve performance, it is purely aesthetic. However, some graphics quality settings can be lowered without causing any visible difference.
Ever wonder what Skyrim would look like if rendered on an old-school CRT monitor from the mid-90s? Wonder no more, because this ENB preset does exactly that.
DOS games from the '90s lacked the fidelity to render detailed textures, so it took a certain amount of imagination to fill in the gaps. Experience the world of Skyrim in a completely different way. Despite the loss of fidelity and color, you'll be surprised how well the game performs.
This post-processing effect only affects the normal game view and loading screens - it does not affect the UI, world map or 3D models rendered in the inventory screen.
Install
Download and install the latest version of ENB for Skyrim SE (here). Use wrapper version. If you already have an ENB preset (wrapper version) installed, remove it and restore ENB to its original state.
Copy the contents of the zip file into the Skyrim root installation directory. Overwrite all files. It's always a good idea to make a backup in case you want to go back. Alternatively, you can delete the "enbseries" folder and reinstall the ENB wrapper.
Open the Skyrim SE launcher. Disable anti-aliasing and exit the launcher (skipping this step may cause flickering).
This will work if you are using a game with a resolution of 1920x1080. If not, please read the following.
Pixelated configuration
This preset is tailored for 1920x1080 resolution. If you use a different resolution, you will have to make some adjustments or the simulation will be at a different resolution than expected.
Go to Skyrim install dir\enbseries and open the file "enbeffectpostpass.fx.ini".
Change the value of "Resolution Reduction Scale" to something more appropriate - see the table below.
Save the file and start the game.
Simulated resolution is the actual resolution divided by the Resolution Reduction Scale. This means that if your resolution is 1920x1080, the simulated resolution is 320x180. To achieve the same (or close enough) analog resolution at any resolution other than 1920x1080, refer to the table below:

set value
Certain parameters of this preset can be adjusted to achieve different effects, such as disabling pixelation but retaining posterization and dithering. To change settings, edit Skyrim install dir\enbseries\enbeffectpostpass.fx.ini or use the ENB game menu by pressing Shift+Enter in game and expand the ENBEFFECTPOSTPASS collapse menu in the right pane. The following is a list of available settings:
Color for each channel - how many shades of red, green and blue are available. The default value is 5, resulting in 5 * 5 * 5 = 125 different colors.
Resolution Downgrade - How much the actual resolution is divided by to reach the simulated resolution. 1 means no scaling. The default value is 6.
Dither Strength - How strong the dither effect should be. 0 means disabled. The default value is 1.
Dither Power - The mid-range that enhances or removes the dither effect. The default value is 1.
Enable screen curves - 1 = enabled, 0 = disabled. Should the bending characteristics of CRT monitors be imit …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
