introduce
Keep in mind that The Old Ways I is a port of XutzBR's original mod designed to improve gameplay in fantastic ways. It added a temple next to the Ironbind Barrow dedicated to the animal totems of dragon worship. It contains 9 gods, each of which has its own unique buffs related to the god's respective attributes. The shrine behaves like a vanilla shrine, so only one blessing can be obtained at a time.
Blessings are balanced, so they are neither useful nor overwhelming. Due to their percentage value, these buffs are very useful both early and late in the game.
If you are more interested in the legend of the Pantheon, I recommend reading Shor, Son of Shor. And if you're more interested, you can dig in the Imperial Library or TES Knowledge.
what to expect
This adventurous companion probably knows that nothing is free and sharpens his sword before entering the temple. You should too
You know, you can’t just visit the Nordic ruins without a flashlight, especially this one.
Totem gods and their blessings
Alduin, the leader of Dragons: Worshipers of the Dragon, although not the head of the ancient Norse pantheon (also known as the World Eaters), believed that he and his kin were the supreme beings over all creation. For this, as well as his brutality and strength, he was worshiped by many ancient northerners. Those blessed by him will take 20% damage from humans, mer, and orcs.
Shor the Fox: Fallen human hero who was the primary deity of the ancient Norse pantheon. In the description of the Atmorans, Shor is a bloodthirsty but cunning warrior god. In Norse mythology, he was the first to lead mankind against Mer. Isgmor and Wolfharth followed. With Fox's Sign, blocking is 20% more effective and your light and heavy armor skills are increased by 20%.
Kyne the Hawk: Mother of Men, Storm Goddess, Warrior Widow of Thor. The highest homage of the Nordic hunter is that of the mother of men and beasts who teach us to respect her creation. Those greeted by her deal 15% increased damage with bows and have their stamina regenerated 20% faster.
Tsun the Bear: Guardian of the Whalebone Bridge, Shield-Thane of Shor and the Norse God of Judgment. Those who wish to enter Thorfgard's Hall of Valor will have to face the bear in fair combat. In the form of another warrior god, those blessed by the bear will learn warrior skills 10% faster and gain +10 to smithing skills.
Storn the Whale: Brother of the Bear and Tana, Thor's shield. He showed how to capture prisoners of war and the benefits of capturing prisoners of war
Unlike his temple version, Stendarr, he is the god of ransom. A true warrior god, he fought against the Aldmeri pantheon and with his blessing, one- and two-handed weapons deal 15% increased damage.
Jhunal the Owl: Father of Language and Mathematics, God of Runes, Father of Wisdom and Knowledge. He was dissatisfied with the Nords, but the mages still held him in high esteem. Despite being part of the pantheon, the owl is rarely found among war-born northerners. However, even if they fall out of favor, Jhunal's few followers will find that it is 10% harder to learn mage skills, and enchanted skills gain a +10 bonus.
Mara the Wolf: Like the female wolf, the Norse interpretation of Mara is a strict mother who will do anything to protect her cubs. Maid of Khaine, consort of Thor, and goddess of familial love increases the restoration spells of those under her protection by 20%.
Dibella the Moth: The other side of love, albeit the sexual side of love. She also symbolizes life, rebirth and death. Ashes to ash, like a moth from a silkworm's chrysalis, she shed her dead skin and became beautiful and new. The Mothman's minions are more convincing, and their Speechcraft skills are 20% more effective.
Snake Orkey: Trickster god, he is a variant of M …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
