You've come out of Helgen and visited the shops... they only have Nordic steel, that's as it should be! This is Skyrim after all! Elf/orc stuff is supposed to be rare...and glass/ebony/daedric is still rarer!

So far, so good....right?

However, you do find it pretty uncanny how happily these merchants display their enchanted wares. . . I thought the northerners of Skyrim didn't trust magic? ! ? ! Also, does the courier job at Winterhold School of Enchantment show that people are embarrassed/ashamed about enchantment? What's weird is that the owner openly carries items.

But this would make the FAR worse!

After spending a few hours sparring with Mudcrabs and leveling up 20 levels, you venture back into town to visit the store... now selling Enchanted Ebony merchandise? ! ? ! Wait, did they hide the inventory from me earlier? Have they figured out now that I deserve a better inventory because I killed some mudcrackers? How are these blacksmiths supposed to make gears that are A) beyond their skill level and B) for which they have no materials? Also, since you know it's not you or the university, who exactly is the trader/blacksmith obsessed with all this stuff? !

You've just been slapped and reminded that you're playing a game where the world revolves around your level! Once again, the immersion is so strong!

What does this Mod do?

  • Blacksmiths/Merchants/Quarterkeepers now mostly sell non-enchanted steel items... no matter what level the Dragonborn is.

*Exceptions include:

-The Blacksmith of Solstheim (Nordic/Chitin/Bone Mold/Stalthrim)

-Orc Blacksmith (sells Orc equipment)

-The orc blacksmiths of Narzulbur also sometimes use ebony equipment/materials since they mine and work with it!

-Imperial/Sons Quartermaster will sell faction armor

  • Apothecary's products (and looted potions) no longer depend on player level = you should have access to the full selection from the start

-Merchants (excluding wizard merchants) generally do not sell magic items/armor/weapons!

*Note: The Khajiit Caravan enchanted items have been removed from the inventory, but each Caravan Merchant seems to get a special "permanent" magic item to sell at the start of the game that does not respawn.....as this still fits my mod's intentions well enough = I decided to leave their single magic item to the caravan to sell.

-You can make steel ingots out of charcoal + iron ore (like in real life!). ...I'm left with the corundum + iron recipe (I guess corundum is high in carbon content)

Some personal thoughts on Nords and Charming:

Yes, I know the Academy of WinterHold Enchanter mentioned that Nords still want enchanted items, but the courier job he entrusts you with is a bit secretive....and the client is even ashamed of ordering the enchantment!

Then there are some guards who openly ask you to enchant the sword...it seems like they can enchant it, right? But those same guards will also ask you to change their bed for them...and we know Nords hate (hate) wizards! So... maybe the guard was just joking?

Sigh, so I'm going to assume that the Norse don't like the charming enchantment workbench of enchantment + stealing/enslaving souls + evil....but can't ignore the power of enchantment either....so they're uncomfortable accepting enchantments.

Future changes:

*V1.5: Coming soon.....once I get motivated again, :P

*Ebony items/materials will be sold by Grover Mallory once the Raven Rock Mine is operational again. ...just need to confirm that the "DLC2RRMine" global value is the "condition" I need for the leveled item list.

*There will also be Imperial Quartermasters selling faction weapons.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
