About this mod Machine translation

Attempts to prevent crossbow auto-reloading. Completely event driven, no frequently running scripts.

Rational Reloading is an experimental attempt to prevent crossbows from automatically reloading, making the reloading process work instead of working automatically. The mod is completely event driven, no scripts are constantly running. However, before using this mod, please note that I am not an experienced Papyrus scripter and there may be all kinds of issues with the mod. Also note that the mod will never be of pro quality, so please consider using any other crossbow reload mod instead of this one, for your own gaming. So try something else and don't download this mod unless you are prepared to encounter serious bugs! Thanks.

This mod also silences the Dawnguard and Immersive Sounds Compendium's original crossbow reload sounds. This is to fix an issue with sounds reloading even after the animation has stopped. Even if the mod is disabled in the configuration menu, the default reload sounds are muted because the sound files are still overwritten. The reload sound will now only play when the reload hotkey is pressed, and the crossbow reload sound from the Immersive Sounds Compendium is included in the mod with permission from lazyskeever. If you don't have Immersive Sounds Compendium yet, I would definitely recommend it - although this mod is not required, you should definitely have it if you want a good audio experience for Skyrim (this is a purely subjective opinion of course).

If you wish to use other sounds for reloading, you should copy and rename the two reloading sounds - the slower one for the speed without the Quick Shot stunt, and the faster one - for the two paths below so that they play when reloading. And remember to do this so they override the ones in this mod, in case you make a separate "mod" for this thing in a Mod Organizer or something:

\DATA\Sounds\FX\ReasonableReloading\wpn_crossbow_reload_01.wav

\DATA\Sounds\FX\ReasonableReloading\wpn_crossbow_reload_quickshotperk_01.wav

compatibility

The mod does not modify any records directly. However, the mod may conflict with other mods that modify crossbow reloading. This mod should be compatible with automatic crossbows such as the J3X on it. As of version 1.0.9, the mod is also fully compatible with killmove mods, such as VioLens.

About Requiem: This mod returns reload speed to default, and this is a game engine issue. Therefore, if you use Requiem, your reload animation will occur at the default reload speed instead of Requiem's speed. So far I haven't been able to implement a mod without having to unbolt it, so the problem is most likely permanent and cannot be fixed. Also, if you're using Requiem, it might be worth turning up the non-delay delay in the MCM menu (0.3 seconds is recommended) so the mod doesn't unbolt you before they're fired.

Installation and removal

To install this mod, it is recommended to use a mod manager, preferably Mod Organizer. Install after Immersive Sounds Compendium. Manual installation is not supported. Uninstallation is never supported. Uninstalling Skyrim mods in the middle of a game can cause problems. If you need to learn how to install mods (and also learn more about mods, savegames, games, etc.), you can find several guides on the Internet. Loading order does not matter with this mod.

This mod contains sound files designed to override the corresponding sounds of the base game and the Immersive Sounds Compendium. New silent sound files have been packaged in the BSA archive. An ideal installation would include the Immersive Sounds Compendium sound files packaged in the BSA archive, this mod is below ISC in the load order, so the sound files will be overwritten correctly. Loose files of problematic sounds may break this mod.

Updates may break things. Using the savegame action utility (a special version should exist) can help you achieve relatively "new" in …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
