About this mod Machine translation

This mod is a greatsword animation pack. It includes animations for idle, blocking, running, walking, and all regular attacks (no power attacks yet). The animation is inspired by HEMA Longsword Fencing, Dark Souls 3 Greatsword animation and For Honor Warden animation.

Overview

I've never been a fan of the vanilla Greatsword anime. The pose looks silly, the block doesn't actually cover most of the body, the sword swing is too wild, and your character moves away from enemies during movement. So I decided to make an animation pack that would be more in line with how I thought the sword should be handled. If you want a quick overview, watch this video, and if you want to understand my logic and inspiration, read on. This mod is still a work in progress and your feedback is greatly appreciated to help me make updates.

Congratulations if you like it!

renew:

I changed all attacks to the second swing. It's a more controlled uppercut now. It no longer looks like the wild swing in the video. Added changes to Plow full and Roof full.

Install

  • There are 6 different versions of the mod in the file. The 2 main versions have all animations, the only difference is the idle and turning animations. Optional version features partial animation. If you just want some animations, download one of the main versions and delete the animations you don't like. Left-handed and right-handed animations cycle differently in the Plow Walk and Plow Walk+Attack versions. Choose a behavior that is independent of any running animations you are using.
  • Please use the mod manager to install the mod. There are too many files in this mod. If you want to install manually, please back up the animation files. I highly recommend using Mod Organizer 2.

Recommended Mods

  • FNIS PCEA2: Use this mod if you just want your character to have animations. I always use this. It's also useful for trying out different animation combinations.
  • Realistic two-handed speed: Two-handed weapons are 25% faster. Animations look better with this mod.
  • Dodge Mod SE: Dodge mode for escaping attacks.
  • Mortal Enemies: This model locks the character during attack animation, making it easier to dodge.
  • Smilodon: Lightweight combat overhaul to make combat more lethal and tactical.
  • Immersive movement speed: Adjust movement speed. Running is slower, walking is faster. Moving backward is faster. Feel better using this animation set.
  • SPERG: My personal favorite perk mod. Don't use this and realistic two-hand speed at the same time.

position

Plow (low protection)

This is a defensive HEMA longsword stance. The default idle, blocking and walking animations use this pose. Block animation is a variation of this. If you initiate an attack, you will enter a rooftop stance before executing it.

Rooftop (Gaowei)

This is an objectionable HEMA longsword stance. The default running animation uses this pose. All conventional attacks begin from this stance. The alternate idle animation also uses this pose. This idle is more akin to Dark Souls locked onto the greatsword animation than a HEMA rooftop stance.

Move and attack

sports

Movement is inspired by dark souls who are locked to movement. Moving your character will always face enemies. Transitions, especially running transitions are very smooth compared to vanilla.

attack

Swing of the Sword takes inspiration from For Honor's Watchmen. The first swing starts at the shoulders and ends at the hips, the second swing starts at the hips, and ends with the sword in a posture similar to that of an ox.

Permissions and customization

You can take any animations you want and assemble them with other animations. However, if you want to upload, you will need my permission.

renew

1/21/2018: Version 0.1: Initial release.

1/27/2018: Version 0.1a:

Minor changes to roof idleness. The sword is not upright.

Added experimental Attack 2 animation for testing. This changes the second attack while standing up for a more controlled uppercut.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
