About this mod Machine translation

Brand new HD realistic bunny textures. Standalone replacement or ESPL with 5 new colors.

When the animals were updated in the game, I was surprised that there weren't nearly as many texture options for rabbits as there were for other creatures. For fun and practice, I thought I'd cover a few.

Real Rabbits HD adds new high-resolution textures and revised meshes while maintaining a near-vanilla color and art style. The (optional) "Variety" version will add 5 extra colors and have a "Skin Randomizer" so all bunnies in the game will look different (see Technical Details for more information).

Install

If you just want to replace the vanilla bunny with something better, grab the Replacer version.

If you want to use new random colors, please install the Diverse version. Just make sure to move the plugin lower in the load order (towards the bottom) to avoid conflicts.

technical details

Rabbits are one of the few animals placed directly on the map and are part of multiple level lists. To avoid conflicts, I use a very simple method: there is a new power spell on HareRace that randomly equips one of the skins when they spawn. It's very lightweight and works similarly to the familiar automatic variants used in the LE. As a compete-level ability, you'll want to make sure the plugin is lower in your load order to avoid any conflicts. See the FAQ post for more information.

The mesh is not new or high-poly, but has its values optimized and the painted vertex colors removed so that different texture colors can be applied.

compatibility

Mods using vanilla HareRace will automatically use these textures. Mods that completely change the mesh and use different UV maps than vanilla will not be compatible.

While updating the animals in my game, I was surprised that there weren't nearly as many options for Rabbit textures as there are other creatures.  For fun and practice I thought I'd whip up a few.

Real Rabbits HD adds a new high-resolution texture and modified mesh, while keeping close to the vanilla colors and art style.  Optionally, the Diverse version will add 5 extra colors, and has a "skin randomizer" so all the rabbits in your game will look different (see Technical Details for more information.)

INSTALLATION

If you want to just replace the vanilla rabbits with something better, grab the Replacer version.

If you want the new randomized colors, install the Diverse version. Just make sure the plugin is moved lower (toward the bottom) of your load order to avoid conflicts.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

The rabbit is one of the few animals that is hand-placed directly all over the map, and is part of multiple leveled lists.  To avoid conflicts, I use a very simple method:  A new ability spell is on the HareRace that randomly equips one of the skins when they spawn.  It is extremely lightweight, and is similar to how Automatic Variants used to work for LE if you're familiar.  Being an ability at the race level, you'll need to make sure the plugin is lower in your load order to avoid any conflicts.  For more information see the Frequently Asked Questions sticky post.

The mesh is not new or high-poly, but had its values optimized, and painted vertex colors removed so that different texture colors could be applied.

COMPATIBILITY

Mods that use the vanilla HareRace will automatically use these textures.  Mods that completely change the mesh and use a different UV mapping than vanilla will not be compatible.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
