Reduced the number of Spell Tomes available from vendors and loot. Now, different vendors may actually offer different "magic book" options!

Rare spell tome

-Available for Skyrim Special Edition-

The original mod for Dazzanator2 can be found here!

All credit goes to them!

I've been using Spell Research for a while, which allows you to discover new Spells by conducting research on known spells, and I wanted to remove or reduce the Spell Tomes provided by Court Mages because it would be a mistake to discover it myself, but know that I can get them for just a little money.

What this mod does:

Reduced the number of Spell Tomes provided by vendors (and as loot)

Court Judges will no longer have every magic book in every library. Instead, they'll give you options, each with different vendors, vendors, and inventories, making it even more exciting to check in with the local mage once you enter the city. If you're using Spell Research, when you go to check out what Farengar has, it feels less like you're cheating yourself and more like you're asking your companions for help.

Removed skill level restrictions for available magic books

While this is actually a side effect of the way this mod works, I think it fits perfectly. How does a court judge know when your spell skills are high enough to cast that bow and arrow? They didn't, and now, they will do so by offering you their full (if reduced) inventory of Tomes!

According to the original description: (if you want to modify any of these values yourself)

Spells at each tier now have a certain chance of appearing (per tome) and can be edited using global variables - as of V3.0 (the version of the original mod) these global variables have been split into "loot" and "buy" versions of each, allowing loot and merchant rarities to be configured separately.

Newbie: 70% - Shop global is 0SpellTomeNoneShop, loot global is 0SpellTomeNoneLoot, both default to 30

Apprentice: 50% - Shop global is 25SpellTomeNoneShop, loot global is 25SpellTomeNoneLoot, both default to 50

Proficiency: 30% - 50SpellTomeNoneShop globally for shops, 50SpellTomeNoneLoot globally for loot, both default to 70

Expert: 10% - Shop global is 75SpellTomeNoneShop, loot global is 75SpellTomeNoneLoot, both default to 90

Master: Remain as is, as the only vendors selling these books are the Academy's respective Master Guides

There is also a second .esp file available for Apocalypse - Skyrim's magic that fixes duplicate entries in the FormID list, which may be noticeable when installing this mod.

Any mod that adds its "Book of Spells" to the appropriate level list via script should be compatible!

Both of these files are marked as .esl files, so they don't count towards your number of active plugins!

This mod also edits some of the Court Mages' containers to ensure they don't have just one Tome.

Lucan Valerius's container has also been edited to remove the starting spell.

Rarer Spell Tomes

I've been using Spell Research for a while, which lets you discover new Spells by doing research on the ones you already know, and I wanted to remove or reduce the Spell Tomes available from Court Mages, because it felt wrong wanting to discover the Spelly myself while knowing I could just get them by spending a little gold.

What this mod does:

Reduce the amount of Spell Tomes available at vendors (and as loot)

No longer will the Court Mages have every Spell Tome from every library ever in stock. Instead, They'll have a selection of them, which varies from vendor to vendor, and from restock to restock, making it more exciting to check in with the local Mage after entering the City. If you are using Spell Research, it will feel less like cheating yourself and more like looking to your peers for help when you go to check out what Farengar has.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
