Disclaimer: All possible digs at other mods are purely tongue-in-cheek. Don't call me mean or anything because of what I said about another mod.

Do you like Aetherius, but wish your skills were leveled lower? Do you like Race Abilities Enhanced, but want different race abilities? Do you like SMASHING mods together and see what happens? Then I have your mod!

Introducing Raetherius - a Bastardized Race Mod! With Raetherius, you can enjoy all the fun and wonderful parts of Aetherius without feeling like your Argonian Restoration Mage is too powerful that their Restoration skills are up to twenty years old after nearly having their tails ripped off by a distant relative in a small mountain town!

Raetherius builds upon Aetherius' racial abilities and skill upgrades, importantly lowering skill levels, reducing health/magic/stamina (and their corresponding regeneration) values, and lowering the base skill level of all skills. Details can be found below.

Compatibility and requirements

This mod has strict requirements for the full (races and standing stones) version of Aetherius, and is incompatible with other mods that touch race records. If you really want to, you can go into xEdit and make a patch, but I won't make any patches unless there is a substantial need.

FAQ

Wouldn't this make the game harder?

perhaps! Lowering your skill level across the board will most likely make your game more difficult to begin with, but that's the point! I like a more fleshed-out sense of character growth, which is why I made this mod.

Do you have the license for DrPharmDawg and SimonMagus616?

I do! DrPharmDawg allowed me to use values from Rae in this mod, and Aetherius has open permission. I did ask Simon, just to be safe.

Why do you stink so much? OMG you smell like a rat drain full of onions!

What can I say? I love onions!

Big thanks to SimonMagus616 and DrPharmDawg, of course, for making the awesome mod and being generous enough to allow me to release this version. This is my first mod released so I really appreciate it!

Smaller but still pretty big thanks to the Skyrim modding community! If it weren't for this entire community, I would have stopped playing this damn game years ago.

Thanks to everyone in the /r/SkyrimMods discord server, even smaller but still noteworthy! I didn't get any feedback or any ideas against them or anything, they were just cool people.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
