Stability patch for special version of original position damage module

Positional damage was originally implemented by Kahmul in ~2013 and added much needed hitbox and positional damage functionality to Skyrim. It has a lot of features and is overall an incredible mod. The attention to detail when it comes to the effects each hit zone triggers is impressive. However, it has certain stability issues when encountering large numbers of NPCs. This patch attempts to keep the mod functional and stable during the chaos of combat. In scripted lightweight games, one might not notice any issues, but when playing with a large number of models, there will be situations where LD will slow down significantly. With this patch, the positional corruption module will significantly reduce the load on the Papyrus scripting engine. Please see the original page for more information.

This is a patch that relies on SKSE64 and PapyrusUtil to greatly improve the reliability and efficiency of the original mod. As of 2019, the most promising attempt to add positional damage in Skyrim is Positional Damage (SKSE plugin). However, this mod is not yet available for SSE and does not have the same extensive functionality as Kahmul's original mod. Over time it will likely replace all other positional damage models, as it will hook events closer to the Havok physics engine - making all camera-based methods obsolete. Timely implementation will allow for full and complete location damage functionality. Until then, feel free to enjoy the original mode in SSE and this patch as a "good enough" approximation.

illustrate

  • Install the damaged module in its original location
  • Install SKSE64 version 1.5.62

3.Install PapyrusUtil

  • Install this patch. Mod organizer users should place it below the original module. The user must allow this patch to overwrite all files in the original module.

Locational Damage is originally by Kahmul in ~2013, and adds much needed hitbox and locational damage functionality to Skyrim. It has a ton of features and is overall an incredible mod. There is an impressive attention to detail with respect to the effects that are triggered for each hit zone. However it has certain stability issues when faced with large numbers of NPCs. This patch is an attempt to keep the mod functional and stable during chaotic battles. In script lite play-throughs one might not notice any issues but when playing heavily modded there are scenarios where LD will slow down considerably. With this patch the Locational Damage module will be significantly less taxing on the Papyrus scripting engine.See the original page for more information.

This is a patch that relies on both SKSE64 and PapyrusUtil to greatly improve the reliability and efficiency of the original mod. The most promising attempt at adding Locational Damage to Skyrim as of 2019 is Locational Damage (SKSE Plugin). However, this mod is not yet available for SSE nor does it have quite the same breadth of features as Kahmul's original mod. With time it will likely replace all other Locational Damage mods, as it hooks into events that are close to the Havok physics engine- rendering all camera-based methods obsolete. Its implementation in time will allow full and complete locational damage functionality. Until then, feel free to enjoy the original mod in SSE along with this patch as a "good enough" approximation.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
