Stop-gap mod: Adds a glazed candle with a light source. Unable to construct. Must be generated via console.

This is a stopgap until someone with scripting knowledge posts something more complete.

Sometimes you'll find glazed candles that can be moved, bumped, knocked, etc. They don't shine and are essentially worthless other than decoration.

This mod uses that grid, plus an additional light source, to allow you to place a small bowl of candles in your home or other dark areas. Due to my lack of scripting knowledge to make constructable lights, this mod is not complete and will not be complete. This means some weirdness, but in return it can be useful lighting options.

How it works: Install the mod. Open the console with ~ and type

Help can be placed

Either

Help "Placeable Candles"

This will show you the ID number. (For others, this will vary depending on the number of mods and load order.) For convenience, get a number, such as 07001234, and type

player.additem 7001234 1

to add one of these to your inventory, or any number you want. No leading zeros are required. Find the candle in the other inventory, find the gold, lock and soul gem in it and place it on the ground or floor. It should have fallen off, but if it still doesn't light up, pick it up, load it, and put it down. When equipped, you'll see an animation of carrying a torch, but nothing in your hands. This is normal. In order to enter the name I have to make the light source portable. Otherwise, you won't be able to find it in the console. If you pick it up and put it down again, it should "close" again. Once you have it down, use normal in-game dragging motions to place it where you want it, then flip it right side up. It should cast a small ball of light around it.

Alternatively, you can enter

player.placeatme 7001234 1

Place them on the ground beneath your feet. They should "land" already lit.

*Keep in mind this is not the actual console ID number as I don't know what your mod/load order would result in. Use the help function to find it in the game.

I used a non-shadow light to avoid interfering with other lighting, and the light source is a very bright version of the defaultcandlelight. (1.15 to 1 vanilla).

Installation: Place .esp and .bsa (just one, no textures) into the data folder.

Uninstall: Never recommended mid-game, but there isn't really anything in this mod, just lights and meshes, so you won't have any trouble doing this.

This is a stop-gap mod, until someone with scripting knowledge releases something more complete.

Occasionally, you will find glazed candles that can be moved, bumped, knocked over, etc. They emit no light, and are basically worthless, except as decoration.

This mod uses that mesh, with an added light source, to allow you to place a small  bowl of candles around your home or other dark area.  This mod is not complete, nor will it be, as I lack the scripting knowledge to make a constructible light source.  That means a few oddities, but a hopefully useful lighting option in return.

How it works:  Install the mod.  Use ~ to open console and type

help placeable

or

help "placeable candles"

which will bring up the ID number for you.  (This will be different for others, depending on number of mods and load order.)  Get the number, for the sake of example, say  07001234, and type

player.additem 7001234 1

to get one of them added to your inventory, or however many you want.  Leading zeroes not required.  Find the candles in the miscellaneous inventory, where gold, lockpicks, and soul gems are found, and drop the item on the ground or floor.  It should fall already-lit, but if it doesn't, just pick it back up and equip it, then drop it.  When you equip, you will see the carry-torch animation but there will be nothing in your hand.  This is normal.  I had to make the light source able to be carried, in order to enter a name. Otherwise, you couldn't find it …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
