Mod description

This weather model has been in the works for a long time. It is started by Prog and SGSRules. I helped make some final tweaks, refinements, and get this mod ready for release.

The weather in Skyrim is tricky. There are a lot of weird spots, like the grass and the ground being lit in completely different ways, and it's often a balancing act trying to make things look consistent. This is especially difficult in VR, where some aspects of weather are different or disabled entirely (such as volumetric lighting). Onyx-VR Weathers is a mod based on Obsidian Weathers with weather color adjustments using custom scripts. The main purpose of this mod is to make the leaves look correct and have a natural night look.

Onyx includes five levels of nighttime darkness. 100% consistent with Obsidian, it was a relatively bright night. 20% is almost black. Most Dark Nights mods make things darker by editing the image space. This works, but unfortunately it darkens everything, including light sources like torches, lanterns, and campfires. This mod uses another technique where half the darkness is set by the image space and the other half is done by darkening the weather color itself. The result is that even on dark nights, the light source actually illuminates the night in a more natural way.

A side effect of this darkening of the night sky is that normal rain textures appear like bright noise or TV static at night. That's why Onyx Weathers also includes carefully crafted raindrops that strike a balance between visible during the day and less visible at night. Note that the rain and snow texture replacement may not work properly without adjustments.

Onyx Weather also includes an ENB version. This version of the mod "flattens" all weather colors so that enb has full control over colors and lighting. The optional files include SGS's custom ENB for Onyx Weathers, specifically made for Onyx's ENB version.

Onyx weathers also feature SkyVRaan compatibility. No water weather patch required!

Distant Fog by Cresty is another mod that looks great in VR. A version of Onyx compatible with Cresty's Mist is included in the fomod installer. Load Onyx Weathers after Cresty's Diststant Mist. No further tinkering required!

Download and install using your preferred Mod Manager. Select night darkness in fomod:

-100%->Bright Night (Same as Obsidian Weather)

-20%->Dark Night

-ENB->Controlled by ENB

compatibility

It is compatible with any water mod as long as you cover it with this water. But it was originally intended to be used with SkyVRaan, so

gives the best results. It should be compatible with every mod that Obsidian is compatible with.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
