One With Nature is designed to let you control how certain animals and creatures react to your character without changing its original AI or faction affiliation. When you open the mod configuration menu, you'll find a drop-down menu list of various NPC groups. Each menu offers five reaction settings: Vanilla, Allied, Friendly, Cowardly and Defensive. Depending on your playstyle, you can apply different reaction settings to different groups of NPCs. A druid might wish to be kin to wolves and bears, a fire mage might want ice demons to flee in fear, or an intimidating hunter might make dangerous animals think twice before attacking.

Vanilla: Restores all settings to their original values. Animals and creatures will behave normally as they did in the original game. 'Vanilla' is the default setting for all options.

Ally: Sets the specified animal or creature as your ally. Allies will usually ignore you and your minions, and will often help you in combat. The minion may attempt to protect an ally animal or creature from being attacked.

Friendly: Sets the specified animal or creature as your friend. Friends will generally ignore you and your followers, but may not help you in combat. The minion is unlikely to protect a friendly animal or creature that is being attacked.

Cowardice: Causes animals and creatures to flee when you approach them. Once they maintain a safe distance from you, they will behave normally.

Defensive: Causes animals and creatures to threaten you or run away when you approach them. If you attack them or they are already in combat, they will fight back. However, they may decide to escape if exceeded. Once they maintain a safe distance from you, they will behave normally.

***Ambush NPCs are not affected by the "Cowardly" and "Defensive" reaction settings to maintain immersion. Additionally, certain quest NPCs are excluded from all reaction settings to maintain quest integrity. We've included debugging tools used during development in the in-game MCM help page to help identify NPCs with cowardly and defensive settings. When active, it adds a fire glow around those NPCs, living or dead. If you come across an NPC that you think was mistakenly included or ignored during development, please let us know.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Most reactions do not switch during combat! For example, if you are attacked by a bear and you set the bear's reaction to Ally, Friendly, or Defensive during combat, the bear will continue to attack you. All other bears that are not attacking you will switch to the new reaction settings. Cowardly is the only reactive setting that takes effect immediately, but it won't take you out of the fight until you and the bear are at a safe distance from each other.

Creatures set as allies or friendly can fight back or flee if you attack them! If you have a group marked Allied or Friendly and you continually attack one person in that group, that person may revert to vanilla behavior and fight back or evade you! Furthermore, if you try to contact it again, the individual will remember your behavior towards it.

Fans will sync with your alliance or friendship settings; they will not attack or be attacked by any group you choose to be alliance or friendly with. They can also help you fend off or hunt down creatures you provoke. Cowardice and defense setup depend on how close you are to the creature, so your minions will rely on your presence to protect them.

How is this mod different from other animal/creature behavior mods?

The difference is that One With Nature doesn't change the NPC AI, but still gives you flexibility in your reactions within the game and allows you to customize the experience for each character without having to add o …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
