My editor for the great Obsidian weather model. I'm mainly making this for Skyrim VR, but of course, it works with normal SSE
I do this for a few reasons...one is to do something different. I also like to hide LODs and pop them out as much as possible. Finally, VR aliasing is most noticeable in clear weather, so this helps in that aspect.
Changelist for Original Obsidian
- Clear all clear sunny weather. The new basic weather is overcast and cloudy.
All fog weather is adjusted to be closer, changing similarly to the volumetric fog model. Fog is more frequent in swampy areas.
- All areas have been modified for more frequent use in harsher weather. The type of weather that is kept is mostly close to vanilla, for example, in most places it usually doesn't snow in vanilla games i.e. Riften and Solitude. But in a few areas like Whiterun, your chances are slim.
- Added a small chance of getting Bloody Eclipse in various regions from Dawnguard DLC
- Increased weather diversity in many areas
Do not use the Seasons feature when using this version of Obsidian
I highly recommend using the following mods. (Although not necessary)
wet and cold
real rain
real life snowflakes
Snowflake Mod
morning fog
misty clouds
Ethereal Cosmos (weather settings you won’t see the sky as much)
footprints
Of course there is no snow under the roof to get any patches for the various mods you have
Better dynamic snow
Better dynamic snow patches
Better dynamic gray
I used Whiterun Hold's Big Forest, so that's how the Tundra's weather is set up. Alpine Forest can also be used, but neither is required.
Thanks again to the author of the Great Obsidian Weathers mod!

List of changes from original Obsidian
- All clear sunny weathers removed. The new base weather is an overcast cloudy weather.
- All foggy weathers tweaked to be closer, changes similar to the volumetric fog mod. Swampy areas will have fog much more often.
- All areas modified to have harsher weathers more often. Kept the types of weather mostly close to vanilla, for example, it still doesn't snow in most locations it usually wouldn't in the vanilla game ie Riften and Solitude. But you will have small chance in a few areas like Whiterun.
- Added small chance to have the blood red eclipse from Dawnguard DLC in various areas
- Added more variety in weathers to numerous areas
Do NOT use the seasons feature when using this version of Obsidian
I highly recommend using the following mods with this. (none are required though)
Wet and Cold
Real Rain
Real Life Snowflake
Snowflake Mod
Morning Fogs
Ethereal Clouds
Ethereal Cosmos (you won't see the Sky that much with this weather setup)
Footprints
No Snow under roof of course get any patches for various mods you have
Better Dynamic Snow
Better Dynamic Snow Patches
Better Dynamic Ash
I use The Great Forest of Whiterun Hold so the Tundra weather was setup with that in mind.. Alpine Forest will work as well but neither is required.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
