Obsidian Weather - TrueStorms Compatibility Patch

Since its release, Obsidian Weathers has come very close to NAT as my personal favorite weather mode, as its ominous, mysterious atmosphere and fun seasonal weather are really hard to beat. While I do find Obsidian's Stormy Weather to be a top talent in their own right, I still could never bring myself to let go of the extra visual intensity that True Storms provides, so I thought I'd go ahead and try another hybrid patch :) Yes, it is true that there is already a True Storms patch from the writers of Obsidian Weather, but upon further inspection, I found that it only replaces the audio for Stormy Weather with Stormy Weather, and doesn't touch any of the visual aspects. As such, this patch aims to take things a step further by integrating True Storms' audio into Obsidian's weather system, along with the visual effects and unique weather True Storms provides. I hope you'll enjoy it!

feature

  • Completely merged all audio from Obsidian and real storms into one experience, including over 40 thunder sounds and all ambient and indoor rain sounds. Special care was taken when distributing sounds throughout Obsidian's weather to provide as much variety as possible, so no two storms should look or sound alike.
  • Reassigned all of True Storm's unique weather to Obsidian's regions, paying special attention to maintaining Obsidian's unique season system and simply adding some of True Storm's unique weather to regions that fit them.
  • Fixed Solstheim region data to include all changes to the unique Ashes weather provided by True Storms, and adjusted the overall rarity of all Solstheim weather to increase variety in the region. An optional Wet & Cold patch is also available which integrates all the unique Ashes weather it adds for all your Ashes related needs :)
  • Visual preference for both versions. Both versions include all of the above features, they just change the "aesthetics" of stormy weather by adjusting things like ambient lighting, shading, fog settings, and more. None of Obsidian's volumetric lighting or other distinct characteristics have been changed.

I decided to do something different this time in order to add as much flexibility as possible to the options offered. Here's an overview of the changes in both versions:

-Luminous-

This version leaves Obsidian's core aesthetic of Stormy Weather completely untouched. This includes shading, lighting, and even rain/snow particles. I felt the need to provide a non-hybrid version because I personally feel that the base aesthetic of Obsidian Storm Weather is already great, and I know a lot of people feel the same way. The only factor I decided to take creative liberties with was the fog values for thunderstorms and rain, which I just lowered a bit to help mitigate the blocky water edge glitches that I felt were very noticeable in these weather conditions. This results in greater visibility and light in these weather conditions, hence the name "Luminous". Long story short, if you just want to inherit the audio and unique weather of real storms without touching anything from Obsidian, then this is the version for you.

-Spectral-

This version selectively combines the lighting and shading of real storms into Obsidian's stormy weather for a darker, sharper atmosphere. It also brings the snow/rain particles from True Storms to all stormy weather, so if, like me, you're a big fan of rain particles in True Storms, and having your storms be as intense and ominous as possible, then this might be the perfect version for you :) This version is basically a collection of all my previous tinkering/mixing, and of course, I'm very picky about which settings I choose to tweak, so there shouldn't be any worries here about visual glitches or harsh transitio …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
