About this mod Machine translation

My editor for the great Obsidian weather model. I'm mainly making this for Skyrim VR, but of course, it works with normal SSE. This is a complete remake of my previous mod.

I do this for a few reasons...one is to do something different. I also like to hide LODs and pop them out as much as possible. Water reflections and volumetric lighting don't work properly in VR, so the lack of direct sunlight allows you to maintain proper water color. Finally, VR aliasing is most noticeable in clear weather, so this helps in that regard.

Changelist for Original Obsidian

  • Clear all clear sunny weather. The new basic weather is overcast and cloudy.
  • Removed most rainy weather (only rainy weather is a magic storm) and increased the chance of foggy weather. Snow is kept in areas where it would normally snow, but does increase the likelihood of snow accumulation in/around the whiterun
  • Added a small chance of Dawnguard DLC Blood Eclipse in various regions
  • Bloom and eye adaptation removed from all image spaces

Do not use the Seasons feature when using this version of Obsidian

I highly recommend pairing with the list of recommended mods below.

real life snowflakes

Real Rain - This one looks a bit in VR but some people may prefer it.

morning fog

misty clouds

Ethereal Cosmos (weather settings you won’t see the sky as much)

Of course there is no snow under the roof to get any patches for the various mods you have

No snow under roof fix

Volcanic Mushroom

Realistic Waters Two with Skyland Watercolor

smooth coast

For trees I think this works best for 3D trees

I used Whiterun Hold's Big Forest, so that's how the Tundra's weather is set up. Alpine Forest can also be used, but neither is required.

For a nice horror experience, use the Rogue-Like Encounters Monster Only Core version

I made this for a few reasons.. one was to just do something different. I also like to hide LODs and pop in as much as possible. Water reflections and volumetric lighting don't work properly in VR so having no direct sunlight makes it so you can retain proper coloring of the water.. And lastly in VR aliasing is most noticeable in clear sunny weather so this helps that aspect a lot.

List of changes from original Obsidian

  • All clear sunny weathers removed. The new base weather is an overcast cloudy weather.
  • Removed most rainy weathers(only rainy weather is the magic storm)  and increased chance for foggy weather. Snow is kept to areas that normally get snow but did add small chance for snow in/around whiterun
  • Added small chance to have the blood red eclipse from Dawnguard DLC in various areas
  • Removed bloom and eye adaption from all image spaces

Do NOT use the seasons feature when using this version of Obsidian

I HIGHLY recommend pairing with my recommended mod list below.

Real Life Snowflake

Real Rain - this kind of looks off in VR but some might prefer it.

Morning Fogs

Ethereal Clouds

Ethereal Cosmos (you won't see the Sky that much with this weather setup)

No Snow under roof of course get any patches for various mods you have

No Snow Under Roof Fixes

Volcanic Mushrooms

Realistic Waters Two with Skyland Watercolor

Smooth Shores

For trees I think this works best with 3D Trees

I use The Great Forest of Whiterun Hold so the Tundra weather was setup with that in mind.. Alpine Forest will work as well but neither is required.

For a nice horror experience use Rogue-Like Encounters Monster Only Core version

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
