illustrate

This mod will change the way Sky reloads in Skyrim.

No more automatic reloading of the crossbow after every shot, or of reloading the crossbow in the middle, now it's up to you to decide when to draw the string.

An auto-reload option is also included if the only thing you want is an anti-attack mechanism.

Differences from other manual cross-country reloading modules:

•SKSE is not required.

  • Completely event driven with minimal script load.

•The reload key is the same as the attack key and may be compatible with gamepads.

  • No arming/unarming after every shot, keeping your ammo constantly cluttered.

•Support Requiem and hopefully make the crossbow in it more interesting and balanced.

  • Optional auto-reload (MCM).
  • Optional endurance drain (MCM) during reload.
  • Account for incorrect player match switching events.
  • *Hopefully* there are no bugs.

need support

If the Requiem support plugin is installed, it will automatically enable stamina consumption during reloading.

The stamina cost depends on the weight of the crossbow and the skill of your marksman, and was implemented as a way to balance out the (now existing) vanilla reload speed, since there's no way to slow down the actual reload animation, but hey, slow reloads are super cumbersome and annoying anyway. .

Now, with the increased stamina cost and the removal of the ability to reload the weapon via holster or switching to another weapon, hopefully the weapon will not only be balanced, but fun to use, something the Requiem weapon was lacking before.

The Quick Reload skill has been renamed to Reload Exercise and now reduces the stamina cost of reloading by 30%.

Spoilers: Show

It's also worth mentioning that this mod works primarily by detecting and executing animation events rather than arming and unarming your current ammo, so this means the "last hit bug" will be non-existent and your silver bolts will properly damage the undead!

Installation and compatibility

To install, simply copy the esp and Scripts folders into [game folder]\Data and enable the esp file in the game options.

The Meshes folder is actually optional but recommended as it fixes some vanilla bugs with the dwarven xbow reload animation (3rd person quick shot perk and incorrect first person stealth reload animation with no sound) and allows you to skip installing the meshes if you use the interference animation mod.

If you are using Requiem, you must install additional patches from the download page, otherwise heavy and light crossbows will have the same reload speed and the "Quick Reload" perk will not help.

The patch builds against version 1.9.4 but should be compatible with 2.x/3.x and will most likely be compatible with future versions.

Work backwards to uninstall, but make sure to delete only this mod's files from the Scripts and Meshes folders.

If you want to delete this mod's files in an existing save, it's best to type "stopquest hznecrquest" into the console and save in a new slot before deleting.

This mod changes very few of the original records and files and makes most of the changes via scripts, so it should be compatible with anything.

Apparently not compatible with other manual crossbow reloading mods.

May not be compatible with the "multishot" crossbow mod.

This may not be compatible with some weapon animation mods if they change key events (unlikely).

Loading order: Not very important, but best to place it after sound overhauls and mods that change CK animation recording.

If you have problems, try turning NECR down.

As long as you don't sell it, and as long as you give me credit in the readme, you can use this mod or parts of it for whatever you want …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
