The reason this mod came about is because early in the game I said to myself, "I'd love it if there was a place where I could dump all my stolen stuff so I could pay my $27 Whiterun bounty and my $25 Markarth bounty without losing it all." Shortly after that, I thought, "It would be great if this charming system wasn't so tight... Even after cheating my way to level 255, I still could only raise Enhanced Alchemy to 40% "So I looked at all the mods that had done similar things. I found all of the house fixtures to be too pretentious for my tastes, and the charming mods to be too crazy for what I wanted. Everyone wants to build a castle or a nine-acre ranch. Everyone wants their charming spells to be godlike. All I want is a studio apartment barely big enough for a bed next to my forge and smelter; I don't want to be running from one side of my house to the other all day, and I don't want separate rooms for charm and exercise. And a little extra beef in my magic. that's all. Simple but efficient - that's what I want. In my opinion, that's what this mod is.
If you stand in front of the Warrior Stone (on the path between Helgen and Riverwood where you run from the dragon at the start of the game), you can see across the river through the hole in the stone. You should now see the building there, that is the "Mysterious Studio". Be careful when you approach as it is guarded by bears. As you get closer, you'll unlock the fast travel icon (minecart) on the map. You can also teleport inside the place using the console code "COC AAAMysteriousWorkshop", but you have to approach it from the outside to get the icon on the map. Once inside, you'll find it's a workshop area with all the crafting workstations (smelter, forge, tanning rack, armor table, whetstone, alchemy table, enchanting table, and even a cooking spit on the forge stove!) in one room!! You'll also find several cupboards and chests that you can use to store things safely. There are also some beds. Fully navigable network inside and out so your entourage will stay with you while you work. (Sorry, you can't move your wife and kids here...this is a workshop not a daycare center.)
If you look carefully, you'll find some unique gear to help you get started with your craft. They were all in the workshop, kind of hidden in plain sight. For some of them, equip them and then see what they actually do for you under the active magic effects menu page. There are also some new potions around the room that give you a nice boost to your crafting abilities (for now of course). These potions cannot be crafted by alchemy or purchased in shops, so use them wisely. There's also a lot of ore and herbs littering this place, so feel free to use or sell what you find. I also hid a very powerful magical staff and threw a ball of three-element power somewhere in the world.
I've added a new enchantment to the game that enhances your enchantment skills. Tip: I'm giving you two identical pairs of lab boots for some reason! I also changed the effects of two potion ingredients (thistle and tundra cotton) so they now use potions to enhance your skills: Alchemy, Enchanting, Smithing and Barter. They can be easily found under the new "Fortify Alchemy" tab in the potion crafting menu, and are the only two ingredients in the game with this effect.
I also edited a few spells to make the mage more interesting. Now, the mana cost of the enhanced spell plus the magic regeneration rate enchantment is more useful, so wearing robes isn't a bad idea. I also increased the duration and power of protective spells like Oakflesh, Ironflesh, etc. So now an impulsive Ebonyflesh spell with all the Alteration perks is equivalent to wearing a full set of Elven Armor - but only if you're act …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
