Welcome to more Vanilla Bandits.
Recently ported to Special Edition
This mod increases the number of bandits in the game. It does not add new bandit types, only new bandit types in locations where bandits already exist. All bandits created by this mod will get some basic sandbox AI so they can blend in with the environment for better integration into the game. It shouldn't interfere with missions or set up gameplay elements like ambushes.
I created it because playing OBIS (which is a great mode) I found that I got a good portion of my wealth and items from looting bandits and I preferred the bandits to have that awkward outlaw vanilla flavor, whereas OBIS bandits also felt a lot like mercenary bands.
It should be compatible with all content as it does not edit any game assets and works completely dynamically by creating new bandits based on those already placed in the game world. It doesn't use the so-called "cloak" ability, nor does it attach any scripts to actors, so it doesn't cause side effects such as the well-known brawl bug. I focused on making the mod as compatible, stable and unobtrusive as possible, and using minimal system resources.
rely
Requires SkyUI, PapyrusUtil and SKSE.
Interaction with other bandit mods
MVB creates bandits from the vanilla level list, so if another mods adds new entries (i.e. new variants of vanilla bandits), these will be used by the mod, entirely new bandit types or unique new bandit NPCs will not. The spawns of new vanilla gangsters added by other mods will be treated the same as in the base game.
Below is a list of mods that have been tested and recommended as companion mods for this version to add more variety to vanilla bandits:
- Special edition update---
It is highly recommended to use other mods that add more bandit types so that you get less duplicate bandits.
Install
I recommend using the Mod Organizer to install, but any installer that places the archive contents in the skyrim data directory should work, or you can of course install manually by unzipping the archive there.
Should work anywhere in the load order.
illustrate
Uh...running around and fighting bandits :-)
Advanced instructions
If you suspect it's interfering with something in the game, like a quest or something (which is highly unlikely TBH), you can turn off the mod by setting the multiplier in the SkyUI configuration to 0, or if you're more paranoid, then you can turn off the mod entirely in the Skyrim console using setstage mvbtimerquest 40 (later re-enable it using setstage mvbtimerquest 10). MBV starts processing any bandits in the loading area. In order to play the scene without any new bandits, you need to load the saved game and disable it there before entering the relevant cell or loading area for the first time.
uninstall
Setstage mvbtimerquest 40 in skyrim console as above, wait 30 seconds or so after closing the console then save the game and delete the mod file. Any bandits already created by the mod will remain in the game.
Note that reinstalling may cause instability unless you use the save game cleaner to remove orphaned scripts that start with MVB in the name first, so if there is any doubt about whether to use it again I recommend turning it off and keeping the mod files in place (it only has an odd 6k)

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
