About this mod Machine translation

This is a patch for the XP32 first-person skeleton to stop Skyrim VR from crashing on launch when playing in left-handed mode.

This is a patch for XP32. It requires you to install XP32. Set this to overwrite XP32's files in load order.

The default vanilla skeleton in Skyrim VR has the following layers of hand bones:

-NPC L hand

⨽Shield

-NPC R hand

⨽Weapons

When left-hand mode is enabled in Skyrim VR, it will look for the NPC L Hand and NPC R Hand nodes, look for SHIELD/WEAPON under their direct children, and swap the bone names. This changes the hand you hold the weapon with.

In the XP32 skeleton, the hierarchical structure of the bones in the hand is as follows:

-NPC L hand

ME CME L hand

SHI pre-shield

⨽Shield

-NPC R hand

ME CME Rhand

WE PreWEAPON

⨽Weapons

Skyrim VR will find the NPC L Hand and try to get the SHIELD child node. However, there is only one direct child: CME L Hand. It doesn't look at the children of the child nodes, and it doesn't check to make sure it's actually able to capture the SHIELD and WEAPON nodes, so when trying to swap them it crashes because it doesn't have anything in the original place.

This patch removes the PreSHIELD, PreWEAPON, CME L Hand and CME R Hand nodes, making them like vanilla skeletons. This will stop crashing on startup.

This is a patch for XP32.  It requires you to have XP32 installed.  Set it to overwrite XP32's files in your load order.

The default vanilla skeleton in Skyrim VR has hand bones in the following hierarchy:

  • NPC L Hand

⨽ SHIELD

  • NPC R Hand

⨽ WEAPON

When you enable left-handed mode in Skyrim VR, it will look for the NPC L Hand and NPC R Hand nodes, look under its direct children for SHIELD/WEAPON, and swap the name of the bones. This changes which hand you hold your weapon in.

In the XP32 skeleton, the hierarchy of the bones in the hands are as follows:

  • NPC L Hand

⨽ CME L Hand

⨽ PreSHIELD

⨽ SHIELD

  • NPC R Hand

⨽ CME R Hand

⨽ PreWEAPON

⨽ WEAPON

Skyrim VR will find NPC L Hand and try to grab the SHIELD child node. However, there is only one direct child node: CME L Hand. It doesn't look through the children nodes of the children and it doesn't check to make sure it was actually able to grab the SHIELD and WEAPON nodes so when it tries to swap them, it crashes because it never had anything in the first place.

This patch removes the PreSHIELD, PreWEAPON, CME L Hand, and CME R Hand nodes, making it like the vanilla skeleton. This will stop the crash on launch.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
