These creepy fuzzies are known for their hunting prowess on the farm, keeping pesky rats away from the grain, or cuddling up to fellow rats on those cold sky-high nights. As you travel across Skyrim, you'll encounter cats everywhere. If you adopt a child, they have the opportunity to take a cat into their home.

Near Whiterun, opposite Chillfurrow Farm, lives a mysterious Argonian Cat Herder.

His kitten shelter is on the river near the bridge.

Visit him and he will show you a list of rings to let the cats know that they are now your master or lady.

Advanced installation:

If you have modified the player's house, you may have to re-summon the cat to get inside.

You can find a player's manual in the Argonian Cat Herder's Cat Shack.

Search for the desired cat and enter help <cat name>0. Then type player.placeatme <code> 1.

That will summon the cat to you and he or she will sandbox in the area.

You can't do this with purchasable cats or it will ruin your game.

You don't need xEdit unless you are 100% sure you don't want to put cats somewhere or want to rename them.

Known issues:

Omfg cat r is not a cat? !

Cats bake their own behavior files into the system of destruction.

Until 3rd party tools come along, or I can find a way to bring them down and sit on fire more often,

They will sit and lie down whenever their behavior chart tells them to.

I'm sorry I can't do more, but I'll keep trying.

Is my cat going out?

When removing the cat ownership ring, make sure you are not near a doorway.

Cats tend to want to go out and play.

Their sandbox area should be 512 units. And they can't open the door

So if you have a way to lock the door, try it if they keep trying to escape.
