Mator Smash Rules

is a collection of manual rules for Mator Smash.

The purpose here is to save other users the time of making their own manual rules. When Mator Smash first came out, I thought there would be a ton of people sharing the manual rules. It seems only natural that the mod author would release a manual smash rule to be downloaded with the main download. Somehow that never happened.

Mator Smash defaults to Smash_All, which is better than Wrye bash, but still leaves a lot to be desired. Especially when a large number of mods edit the same record. If multiple patches affect the same record, the broken patch may not make the expected changes.

Manual rules are the solution. Manual rules work by telling Mator Smash to ignore all changes or reversals made by a given mod that are unrelated to the intended changes made by the mod. Not all mods require manual rules. But I do find that the following mods work better with manual rules. However, manual rules work best if other related mods also have manual rules. For example. If you have NPC Look rules that affect NPC_Non-Player Characters (Actors), then it's best to look at what other mods do to that record and make manual rules for them.

I haven't bothered to make rules for many mods. Immersive Weapons Battle with Zia's weapons and other weapon models that re-equip NPCs. Instead of making manual rules for each mod and then resolving conflicts with load order. I just deleted all NPC records from IW.

Even with manual rules, not all conflicts will be resolved. Some records Mator Smash will not handle rules correctly. Other times, two seemingly similar mods will solve a problem in different ways, or make out-of-scope changes that you still want to keep. So always take a quick look at each smashed patch in xEdit to make sure everything is working properly.

Remove the zip folder and put into the \Mator Smash\settings\Skyrim directory. Then you need to assign the rules to the esp. Right click on the mod. Then select Smash Setting / Ungrouped / then select the mod name. From there, you can click the Manage Smash Settings button at any time to view my edits and decide if you agree with my settings or if they need editing. Either way, even if you think I'm doing it wrong, you should save yourself some time and effort.

The rules do not eliminate the importance of load order. If two different mods affect the same value, the lowest mod will still win.

All Credit goes to Matortheeternal for making the utility first.

Rules included:

NPC Look - This is not a mod, but a general rule for NPC beautification mods. It only activates the tint mask, head, hair, etc. But ignore anything else.

Independent Fans -.....General rules for independent fans. I've found that many standalone follower mods make changes that they shouldn't. This is somewhat of a relief but does not apply to all independent minions.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
