What sets it apart from other element/tree/bound arrow mods?
Shooting something with an arcane arrow is equivalent to hitting it with a spell
Improve your spellcasting skills in a way that is appropriately affected by effects such as the Mage Stone
Make Magicka's cost appropriately affected by your skills, perks, equipment, etc.
Interact with other effects triggered by spell casting (e.g. spells like Electrolyze in Arcanum)
Doesn't suffer from hitbox issues like mods that enable arcane effects by attaching explosions to arrows
Designed for all arcane effects and signals to scale and remain relevant throughout the game
Basic Arcane Arrows use elemental weaknesses as direct multipliers for arrow damage, weapons, and abilities
Elemental damage signatures scale with level, and base arrow elemental bonuses can be added so they don't fall behind as you advance
Non-impairing signals are applied with effects that are still interesting and useful throughout the process
How to use
First, you must obtain an Arcane Bow. You can buy one from the Riverwood Trader or the merchant in Winterhold, or find one on a desk in Farengar or on a bed in Winterhold College. It can be broken down to learn the enchantment of "Arcane Binding" to transform other bows like the Arcane Bow. Alternatively, if you're not a magician, you can learn the novice-level "Arcane Binding" power at the Spell Trader and Riverwood Trader. This is a free, unlimited-use secondary power that will turn any unenchanted bow you have equipped into an arcane bow. You can shoot arcane arrows without an archery bow, but their elemental or sigil effects will have no effect.
To use Arcane Arrow, you can learn a variety of summoning archery spells: Arcane Arrow (novice) and Fire, Frost, Shock, and Solar Arrow (apprentice). Casting this spell destroys all other Arcane Arrows you possess, resets all spell modifiers set for that type, and creates an infinite supply of corresponding arrows after a short delay. Firing these arrows consumes magic and level skills. If you run out of magicka, arrows will be summoned. You can also learn the "Elemental Tremor" spell (proficiency), which summons all five types simultaneously and resets your signal (this allows you to switch between arrow types without having to recast the summons). Arrows gain a bonus/penalty when hitting enemies that are weaker or stronger than their element. Additionally, Solar Arrow is strong against undead/ghosts but weak against living creatures, while Shock Arrow is strong against dwarven structures and casters.
You can also learn various spells from the School of Destruction. Casting one of these will activate a token that will change all arrows of that type, for example you can activate a fire token and a frost token which will make your fire and frost arrows behave differently. This sigil lasts until you activate another sigil of that type or restore an arrow of that type. This mark changes the arrow's base spell, giving it new effects and increasing its spell cost and skill buff accordingly.
This mod is designed to be used in conjunction with other mods, allowing you to instant summon and imprint spells while keeping your bow equipped (MageVR will do this if you are playing in VR). If you don't have such a mod installed, the "quickcast prepara …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
