LUCIEN

Overview

Lucien Flavius is a voice-filled Imperial minion with over 1,600 lines of immersive, loving dialogue. A scholar by trade, Lucien is on an expedition to visit Skyrim, and may find traveling companions in Falkreath in search of the Dead Man's Drink. Although when you first meet him he is a wimp with barely enough combat skills to hold a sword, he will dynamically learn from you as you travel together, gaining strength and confidence until he grows into a hero.

Despite his initial lack of confidence, Lucien remains enthusiastic and optimistic, and will comment on your location and active quests (but will insist on whispering while you're sneaking around.) He has a small collection of books that he can read aloud to you, and will chat with certain NPCs during normal play. He even has custom interactions with 15 other mods, including special theatrical scenes with Auri and Hoth, written and recorded in collaboration with the original voice actors.

Lucien has his own follower system, so it won't affect your follower count. He is important when traveling with you, although should you choose, you can kill him. He starts at level 10, but skills improve as you travel with him until he matches your own. You can also offer him lessons in special skills to speed up his training. Initially, he knows Frost, Fire, and Heal, but if you know it yourself and have a copy of the Spell Collection given to you, you can teach him more spells from the curated pool. All of his spells can be toggled on and off after he has learned them if you no longer want him to cast them. His fighting style is customizable, and in addition to his own default generalist style, he can fight as a warrior, mage, or archer.

feature

Over 1600 lines of fully voiced, immersive and absolutely friendly dialogue.

A comprehensive review of Skyrim's main quest, the Academy of Winterhold questline, and numerous side quests.

New quests in the unique Dwemer ruins built by Darkend creator JKrojmal.

Dynamic, statistics-based personality system, Lucien may gain or lose approval or bravery, changing his behavior and dialogue based on his interactions with you and the choices you make.

A custom training system, Lucien will gradually gain better skill levels than you, accelerated through classes in specific skills (and spells) that you can give him once per game day.

If you have Lucien in your inventory, Lucien can read a small stack of books out loud.

Many customization options, such as combat style and spell switching, can be configured through dialogue or through the MCM.

Interacts with 15 other mods, including full commentary on questlines from Moonpath to Elsweyr and Moon and Star and fully voiced dramatic scenes with Inigo, Hoth and Auri.

Require

No. However, if you have SKSE64 and SkyUI, Lucien's MCM will be activated, allowing you to view his stats, change his fighting style and turn his spells on and off. See the Mod Interaction section for details on other mods Lucien can interact with.

compatibility

At this stage, Lucien has no known incompatibilities. If any issues arise, I will patch them as quickly as possible. However, since he has his own custom follower system, I recommend against trying to manage him using external follower modes (like AFT) - just like Inigo, these may break his brain!

Install

Download the main file and any mod-interaction patches, preferably activating them via a mod manager such as NMM or Vortex. If you are not using a mod manager you can extract esp and bsa and place them in the data folder.

uninstall

Skyrim as a rule does not support uninstalling mods mid-game, so I can't offer any support if doing so causes problems. However, if for some reason you need to uninstall Lucien, you ca …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
