Someone made a port of Guard Dialogue Overhaul who thought he would impose his own preferences on the mod and upload it as an official port. His changes included disabling the "arrows to the knees", "no lollygagging" and "someone stole your sweets?" lines, which I thought was a bold atrocity and I let him know. He then banned me from leaving his port and sent me messages about being authorized. I believe that if you are making a unique port of someone else's popular mod, you have to stick to its design philosophy and if you want to change it, you make it an alternate version with the original. So this is the original version. Luckily I already had my own port of the mod and USKP fix, so I just spent some time transferring the optimization results to what he had someone to do. It has no Admonish Shouts feature, nor does it have beer-to-guard or "WAF fixes" as they are completely unnecessary. GDO has a built-in SPIKE compatibility system, for a reason it's used by WACCF and my own mod AA, so you can only load GDO before WACCF. WAF fix is not required, but it has CRF fix, I've improved some comment cooldowns. It chooses to accept donation points, 100% of which goes to the original author Eckss. Please enjoy, and remember...no lollygagging.

Original description:

More dialogue, more realism, more respect. This mod changes guard dialogue, changing it from something that ruins your immersion in the world of Skyrim to something that actually adds to it. All original sounds and fully compliant with Skyrim Lore.

GDO fixed all Skyrim Defender dialogue bugs and did a lot of other things.

GDO has changed the impact Skyrim Guard dialogue has on your mood in the game. Rather than annoy you, guards will enhance your gaming experience and increase your immersion in the world of Skyrim by correctly recognizing your actions rather than making disrespectful comments about characters they should respect.

GDO will not remove any comments from the guard's vocabulary; they will still be rude and laugh at you as usual at the start of the game. However, once your character completes tasks to gain the respect of the guards, their attitudes will begin to change for the better, and once your character is a legend of Skyrim, they will respect, appreciate, and sometimes even get nervous in your presence.

Due to the game's overly strict conditions, GDO unlocks a lot of defensive dialogue that is never or rarely used. This is not a bug but a design choice made by Bethesda developers that I disagree with. This means that before GDO, the guards will talk a lot more than you will be used to. Many people have never heard some comments before, others will only rarely hear them in limited circumstances.

Once you're respected, GDO will add dialogue options for your character to yell or drop your weapon if the guard reprimands you.

GDO prevents guards from getting stuck in a loop where all they can say is "What is it?"

GDO now provides some but not all guard commentary for some other NPCs with the same voice. This was only done in comments that could reasonably be considered non-guard specific, and did not interfere with normal NPC dialogue at all, so there is no potential for conflict with this addition.

If you wish to disable this feature so that all Guard dialogue is spoken only by Guards, use the Console command:

Set GDOExtraNPCs to 0

Once disabled, this feature will remain disabled for that role. Any new game will start with this feature enabled.

GDO sets the required skill level before the guard will comment your skill to 50. This is considered cognoscenti in the game and seems appropriate. This value can be customized using the in-game console if desired.

GDO maintains skill level thresholds in 3 variab …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
